Creative Writing Awards
ANNOUNCING THE FREDONIA ENGLISH UNDERGRADUATE CREATIVE WRITING AWARDS
Deadline: April 16, 2021, 4 p.m. sharp
(Open to any undergraduate student who has taken/is taking a creative writing class during the 2020-2021 academic year at Fredonia)
The Mary Louise White Poetry Award:
($150; 1 second prize of $100, 1 third prize of $50) For the best poem or group of poems (up to 3) written by a Fredonia undergraduate student
Poetry Judge: Noah Falck, author of Exclusions
The Mary Louise White Fiction Award:
($150; 1 second prize of $100, 1 third prize of $50) For the best short story written by a Fredonia undergraduate student
Fiction Judge: Matt Bell, author of Appleseed
The Mary Louise White Excellence in Creative Writing Award:
($500; 1 second prize of $250) For the best portfolio of creative writing written by a Fredonia undergraduate student; portfolios (up to 25 pages) must be multi-genre (poetry, fiction, and/or nonfiction) and must be accompanied by a 1-2 page letter addressing the student’s overall contributions to creative writing at Fredonia (e.g., classwork, membership in student organizations, scholarships, GPA, attendance at events, etc.)
RULES: Entries will be judged anonymously. Please do not put your name or any other identifying information on your work—otherwise, you will be removed from the contest. Entries shall be submitted to the English Department secretary, Ms. Kimberly Hollman, via email at email@example.com by 4 p.m. on April 16th. No late entries will be accepted.
Winners will be notified no later than April 30th, and honored at the English Department Virtual Awards Ceremony at 5 p.m. on May 7th. All awards will be mailed directly to the winners. Please be sure to provide Ms. Hollman with your preferred mailing address if you are an award winner.
