The Fredonia English department sponsors two speaker series, the Mary Louise White Visiting Writers Series and the Mary Louise White Lecture Series.  In addition, we co-sponsor the Writers @ Work Alumni Writers-in-Residence Series and often sponsor or co-sponsor other campus speakers and events.  Here's what we have planned for the current academic year!

 

 

Events for the 2018-2019 Academic Year

 

March 24-26: Scott Martelle. Writers @ Work Alumni Writers-in-Residence Series.

April 4-6: Four Years Out (Class of 2015). Writers @ Work Alumni Writers-in-Residence Series.

 

April 9-10, 4:30-5:30 p.m.: Craft Talk and Reading by Michelle Whittaker (Stony Brook University). Mary Louise White Visiting Writers Series, McEwen 209.

Michelle Whittaker is a West Indian-American poet and pianist whose interests include expository and creative writing pedagogy, music composition, 20th Century American, Afro-Caribbean, and ecopoetry. Michelle completed an MFA in Creative Writing and Literature at Stony Brook University. Her poems have been recently published in The New York Times MagazineNew Yorker, The Southampton Review, NarrativeVinyl PoetryLong Island QuarterlyTransitions Magazine for Hutchins Center, and other publications.

She was awarded a Jody Donohue Poetry Prize, Cave Canem Fellowship for African American poetry, and a Pushcart Special Mention. Her first book, Surge, is available now from great weather for Media

Michelle Whittaker, MLW Visiting Writers Series, April 9-10, 2019

 

April 28, 11 a.m.-2 p.m.:  Day of Poetry and Prose (and Song and Drama), Fredonia Technology Incubator.

In 2019, we are honoring Emeritus Distinguished Teaching Professor Malcolm "Mac" Nelson and Emeritus Professor Albert A. "Al" Dunn.  Our event precedes a celebration of Mac's life in the Incubator from 3-5 pm.
