Sons of Karen West Scholarship

Awarded to: Natural science majors; single parent or children of single parent. Background: Karen West earned an A.A. from Jamestown Community College, with high honors; a B.S. from SUNY Empire State College and an M.A. from Empire State College, while a single working mother. During much of her work towards her degrees, her sons, Bradford and Keith, were also in college. Karen began her career at Fredonia in 1984 as Assistant to the President for College Affairs. She created Corporate and Foundation Relations, a new area in the Fredonia development efforts, served as Interim Vice President for University Advancement from 2003 to 2005, and was named Senior Director of Development in 2008. She is grandmother of Michaela Nelson (daughter of Bradford), Savannah and Ashley Nelson (daughters of Keith). Both sons are Fredonia alumni.
