The Adele Maytum Hunter Scholarship

Adele Maytum Hunter Scholarship

Adele Maytum was born in 1892 in Fredonia, NY to Arthur and Gertrude Maytum. A graduate of Brooks School of Nursing in 1915, she spent several years of private duty nursing in the Dunkirk/Fredonia area before moving to California. Adele then became a Registered Nurse after passing the California State Boards, and settled in the Los Angeles area. She impressed her patients with her kindness and gentle performance of her nursing duties and was kindly remembered by those she cared for during her career as a registered nurse. The scholarship was established in 2002 by Adele’s son Robert Maytum, Adele’s grandson Robert A. Maytum, and Adele’s great-grandson Kurt Maytum. Robert Maytum was a long standing philanthropist who generously supported Fredonia, and Robert A. and Kurt Maytum have continued the Maytum tradition of community service and philanthropy.

Recipients of this scholarship are students with intentions of medicine, pre-med, pre-nursing, juniors or seniors in the major.
