Student Affairs Goal: Wellness  (Definition: We guide students and staff in staying safe and keeping healthy.)

Objectives:

1. Cultivate and sustain an environment that connects students to necessary services. (TBT: 1.3, 2.2, 4.3)
2. Structure services to support basic needs. (TBT: 4.3, 4.2)
3. Create processes that allow for the integration of health and wellness services for students by promoting stronger partnerships across campus. (TBT: 3.4, 4.2)
4. Create a culture in which individual wellness is valued for faculty, staff, and students. (TBT: 4.4)

Student Affairs Goal: Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Accessibility and Belonging (DEIAB) (Definition: Everyone belongs here.)

Objectives:

1. Create and sustain a co-curricular environment where all students, faculty, and staff can safely be themselves and be valued for who they are. (TBT: 1.3, 3.1, 3.3., 4.1, 4.4)
2. Identify and remove barriers to success for marginalized populations both academically and personally. (TBT: 1.3,3.3, 4.2)

Student Affairs Goal: Academic Excellence  (Definition: We support student’s academic and personal success.)

Objectives:

1. Provide opportunities for co-curricular learning (e.g., student leadership opportunities, service learning, internships, local and global citizenship, etc.). (TBT: 1.4, 3.4)
2. Explore and develop overt partnerships between the divisions of Academic Affairs and Student Affairs. (TBT: 1.3, 4.2)
3. Maintain and improve support structures necessary for student academic and personal success. (TBT: 1.3, 4.4)

Student Affairs Goal: Financial Sustainability (Definition: Manage resources with intention and responsibility.)

Objectives:

1. Create an environment where students can find what they need easily. (TBT: 2.2, 4.3)
2. Develop a mechanism that facilitates short-term and long-term planning for the division. (TBT: 2.1)
3. Create a culture of collaboration between departments. (TBT: 2.1, 4.2)
4. Promote transparency about Student Affairs funding, spending, and resources. (TBT 2.1, 2.2)

  • Campus-Community Bus Service Schedule (check for changes to operating schedule during breaks)
  • The CARTS Bus [Dunkirk City Route] runs Monday through Friday (except holidays), 7:30am - 5:30pm, to D & F Plaza, TJ Maxx/Aldi's, Tops Plaza, Wal-Mart and other locations in Dunkirk. Student Affairs Recognition Awards

These annual awards celebrate staff who go above and beyond in advancing the mission of the Division of Student Affairs at SUNY Fredonia: Enhancing student development and wellness through collaboration and personalized support. 

Each award is grounded in the core values that guide our work - Belonging, Compassion, Innovation, Integrity, and Wellness - and reflects our vision of creating and sustaining a community where all students can thrive. 

Nominees exemplify these values in their daily work and make meaningful contributions to a campus environment where students feel supported, valued, and empowered. 

1. Belonging Award 

Honors a staff member who fosters an inclusive, welcoming environment. 

Criteria: 

• Creates spaces where students feel safe, seen, and valued 
• Demonstrates proactive efforts to include all voices 
• Builds strong relationships with diverse student populations 
• Actively supports equity and access in their work 

2. Compassion in Action Award 

Recognizes a staff member who consistently demonstrates empathy, kindness, and care. 

Criteria: 

• Goes above and beyond to support student well-being 
• Shows respect and compassion toward colleagues and students 
• Maintains a supportive presence during challenging situations 
• Models self-care and care for others 

3. Innovation Award 

Celebrates a staff member who brings creative and student-centered solutions to their role. 

Criteria: 

• Develops or implements new initiatives that enhance student support or engagement 
• Takes calculated risks to improve programs, services, or systems 
• Uses feedback and data to drive improvement 
• Inspires others through a growth mindset 

4. Integrity Award 

Acknowledges a staff member who exemplifies honesty, professionalism, and ethical leadership. 

Criteria: 

• Acts with transparency and fairness in all interactions 
• Upholds high ethical standards 
• Demonstrates consistency in words and actions 
• Earns trust through respectful and responsible behavior  

5. Wellness Champion Award 

Recognizes a staff member who actively promotes physical, mental, and emotional wellness. 

Criteria: 

• Advocates for and integrates wellness into their programs or services 
• Encourages healthy habits and boundaries for students and staff 
• Collaborates across departments to support a culture of well-being 
• Supports safety, accessibility, and sustainability on campus 
   

6. Mission & Vision Leadership Award 

The highest honor, recognizing a staff member who embodies the full mission and vision of the Division of Student Affairs @ SUNY Fredonia. 

Criteria: 

• Demonstrates leadership in enhancing student development and wellness 
• Champions collaboration and personalized support 
• Creates an environment where all students can thrive 
• Consistently models the Division’s core values in their daily work 

Nomination & Selection Process 

• Eligibility: Open to all professional and support staff within the Division of Student Affairs 
• Nominations: Submitted by colleagues, supervisors, or students 
• Selection Committee: Composed of representatives from outside the division 
• Presentation: Awards presented annually at the Student Affairs end-of-year celebration (end of May)
