The second of four forums in the Lundine Series will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 18 from 8 to 9:30 a.m. at the Robert H. Jackson Center in Jamestown, N.Y. This event, which will explore the possibilities surrounding police consolidation, is being sponsored by SUNY Fredonia’s Center for Rural Regional Development and Governance (CRRDG) and other agencies. The forum’s panelists include Dr. Peter Sinden of SUNY Fredonia’s Department of Sociology.
An impressive array of talented comics, authors and entrepreneurs will come together at SUNY Fredonia in February to commemorate Black History Month, including an appearance by “Saturday Night Live” (SNL) cast member Finesse Mitchell on Feb. 18.
SUNY Fredonia will compete against colleges and universities from Canada, India and Islampur over a 10-week period to measure the success of its recycling and waste prevention efforts. This year, 510 schools have agreed to participate in "Recyclemania." All 50 states and the District of Columbia are represented in 2009.
An opening reception to launch the one-month visit of the Emmett Till Traveling Exhibit in Reed Library will be held Tuesday, Feb. 3, from 4 to 5 p.m. with a talk by Professor Saundra Liggins. Other events are planned throughout the month, including the showing of the film, "The Untold Story of Emmett Till" on Feb. 4, and a panel discussion on how the murder of a 14-year old spurred the Civil Rights Movement in America.
The Foolz ─ Henrik Bothe (The Dapper Dane) and Woody Keppel (Woodhead) ─ will present “A February Festival of Fun” on Friday, Feb. 6 at 7 p.m. in Marvel Theatre. Veterans of film, television, radio and the stage, Bothe and Keppel have performed for audiences on six continents.
One of the most successful indie bands working today will be featured in concert at Rockefeller Arts Center on Feb. 13 at 8 p.m. in King Concert Hall. Ball in the House, a soul-pop/R&B vocal band out of Boston, will take the stage for a one-night-only event.
The Department of Biology has invited two guest speakers to acknowledge the contribution of Charles Darwin to understanding the diversity of life forms on the earth. Tropical warblers and Killer Whales are the subject of seminars on Feb. 6 and 13 from 4 to 5 p.m. in Jewett Hall Room 101. All are welcome.
The best works of student artists at SUNY Fredonia will be on display in the art gallery at Rockefeller Arts Center beginning Friday, Feb. 6. The "Fredonia Showcase" will open on Feb. 6 with a reception in the Art Gallery lobby from 7 to 9 p.m. The reception is free and open to the public.
