Community observes 70th anniversary of Kristallnacht

The Interfaith Holocaust Commemoration Committee of Chautauqua County is sponsoring the free showing of the film, "Genocide," at the 1891 Fredonia Opera House on Sunday, Nov. 9, at 7 p.m. The event commemorates the 70th anniversary of Kristallnacht - "The Night of the Broken Glass," in which thousands of Jewish synagogues and businesses were destroyed in a matter of a few hours.

Alumni christen Marvel lobby in memory of von Tornow

A half-century after the death of beloved teacher Dr. Georgiana von Tornow, alumni returned to christen the lobby of the 400-seat Marvel Theatre in memory of the former speech and drama teacher who is considered the founder of SUNY Fredonia's theatre arts program.

SUNY students officially endorse rational tuition policy

The Student Assembly of the State University of New York officially endorsed a policy of rational tuition recently at its Fall Conference taking place in East Syracuse, NY. The final vote was 50 to 10 with four abstentions in the affirmative, which was preceded by an extended period of informative discussion and debate.

Hopes expressed as Tech Incubator breaks ground

“In a time when we’re surrounded by negative news about the economy, it’s so encouraging to be a part of a project like this that could potentially have such a positive and significant impact on our region.” President Dennis L. Hefner spoke these words Monday at the ground-breaking ceremony for SUNY Fredonia's highly-anticipated Technology Incubator in Dunkirk, N.Y.

Student group plans Halloween "terror" in Woodlot

"Terror in the Trees," presented by the SUNY Fredonia Interactive Theater Society, is being staged in the woodlot as a Halloween event this weekend, Oct. 23, 24, 25, and 26, from 8 p.m to midnight. The Campus Woodlot is located inside Ring Road, next to the Clocktower. All members of the public are invited. Tickets can be purchased at the SUNY Fredonia Ticket Office for $3, or at the "Terror in the Trees" entrance for $4.
