Homecoming was a weekend to remember

The Alumni Association honored stellar graduates, many athletes, and remembered deceased friends, as Fredonia celebrated its annual Homecoming Weekend Oct. 20, 21, and 22. The Class of 1981 came together for its 25th reunion, and the Communication Department celebrated the 25th anniversary of its founding. Students elected Patrick Newell and Lisa Meyers as Homecoming King and Queen.

Prevet and alumni are Hall of Famers this year

Former Fredonia State coach and administrator Dr. Thomas Prevet, women’s soccer player Kristi (Buntich) Wiley, baseball player Joe Caso, and cross country and track and field athlete Todd Grady will be inducted into the SUNY Fredonia Athletic Hall of Fame on Saturday, Oct. 21.

Alumni jazz stars return for concert Friday

The award winning Fredonia Jazz Ensemble of 1974 includes alumni from as far away as Germany, Arizona, and California who are returning to the campus for a joyous reunion in celebration of jazz.

Homecoming Weekend will bring back the best

Outstanding Achievement Awards The Alumni Association will honor three stellar graduates this weekend, as Fredonia celebrates its annual Homecoming Weekend. The Outstanding Achievement Awards will be given Saturday at a luncheon to Rocco Piscatello ‘90 (graphic design), Andrea Romano '77 (theatre arts), and David Salamone ’79 (Interdisciplinary Studies – Radio and Television). Romano Salamone Piscatello Communication's 25th AnniversaryThe Communication Department kicks off its 25th anniversary on Friday with a panel discussion on careers by some stellar alumni in the afternoon, and a reception following. The department, its former faculty, current students and alumni will continue to celebrate throughout Saturday, capping their memory-building weekend with a light buffet dinner in Reed Library and a benefit concert by the TRIPJACKS, (American roots music). Professor Emeritus John Malcolm, ’61 and Linda Malcolm ’60 are sponsoring the evening. Alumnus Charles Fisher ’62 and former Professor Emeritus and singer/songwriter Dan Berggren will be appearing. Tickets are $20 and available through the Alumni Office (673-3553). Tom Prevet to be inducted into Hall of FameMore alumni are being honored Saturday night during the Athletic Hall of Fame inductions. Honored this year are Joseph Caso '97 (baseball), Todd Grady '99 (track), Kristi (Buntich) Wiley ‘93 (soccer), and former coach (both soccer and baseball), professor, and Athletic Director, Thomas Prevet. “China – The 21st Century” at World Travel Series

“China —The 21st Century” will be shown Saturday, Oct. 28, for the World Travel Series in King Concert Hall. It explores the streets of Beijing, where constant urban renewal has not overshadowed such historical artifacts as the gorgeous Summer Palace or the Great Wall of China.

Orchesis shows off in mini-concert Oct. 19

“Works in Progress” will feature 12 original dance pieces choreographed by Orchesis members. These selections will include such genres as modern, jazz, hip-hop and lyrical dance, among others. Forty-seven student-dancers will participate in the show.

Information sessions on social work degree

Information on the SUNY Fredonia bachelor’s degree in Social Work will be presented twice in November for all prospective students, especially those who hold an associate’s degree or are interested in studying part-time. The Social Work program at Fredonia is accredited by the Council on Social Work Education and has been in existence since 1997.
