Information on one of the fastest-growing service career sectors in the U.S. will be available to SUNY Fredonia students at “Spotlight on Aging and Gerontology” on Tuesday, March 11, at 5:30 p.m. in Williams Center Room S204D. Professionals from a variety of organizations that serve older populations will be available to meet with students at the mixer, which follows the Job & Internship Expo taking place that afternoon in the Multipurpose Room.
On Thursday, March 6, the SUNY Fredonia Business Club presented the 37 th Annual Business Persons of the Year Award to Rita Canfora and Debbie Michalak, owners of The Cutting Crew, located on Eagle Street in the village of Fredonia. An award banquet and ceremony was held in the Williams Center.
L. Annette Binder, writer of the award-winning collection of short stories, “RISE,” will meet SUNY Fredonia students and give a craft talk on Thursday, March 6, as part of the Mary Louise White Visiting Writers Series. The craft talk will begin at 4 p.m. and will be followed by a reading from her book at 7 p.m., in McEwen Hall Room 202. The free event will include a question and answer session and book signing.
The SUNY Fredonia Italian club will be hosting a St. Joseph’s Day dinner on March 30 at 7 p.m. in the Williams Center Horizon Room. The celebration, which is open to students, faculty, and staff, costs $16.88 per person, and all reservations must be made by March 14.
A team of students majoring in the social sciences at SUNY Fredonia will be in Albany on Friday, March 21, to present data they compiled to assess the value of social worker training and education at the bachelor’s level for workers involved in child welfare services at the county level.

Students can test their knowledge and raise money for the Ultra Violet Campaign at the same time at Trivia Night, sponsored by Sigma Kappa Sorority, on Thursday, March 13, at 7:30 p.m., in the Williams Center Multipurpose Room. Tickets can be purchased for $5 in the ticket office in the Williams Center and all proceeds will go to the Ultra Violet Campaign.
The SUNY Fredonia Health Center is sponsoring an educational and competitive weight loss program called Pounds Off Wisely (POW). The program is open to both students and staff. Interested staff and students should establish a team of four members and create a unique team name. Registration is $15 per person and is available through the listserve on the Health Center website. Teams should register by March 19.
SUNY Fredonia’s Department of Mathematical Sciences is celebrating its 14th annual Pi Day on Thursday, March 13, at 5:30 p.m. in McEwen Hall Room 209. All are welcome to attend. The year’s theme is ‘Pi’ Perfect. Team signups are available outside of Fenton Hall Room 222, also known as the “fishbowl,” and is open to students, faculty, and staff. Signups will end March 11.
Fredonia senior Ashley Keller (Lockport, N.Y.) won both the NCAA Division III regional 3-meter and 1-meter championships this weekend at Rochester Institute of Technology, and will be once again representing the Blue Devils at the national meet in Indianapolis from March 19-22. Fredonia's Arron Carlson (LeRoy, N.Y.), who scored 478.1 points to win his 3-meter event in his freshmen year, will be joining her, after winning the men's regional qualifier Friday, as will senior Katelyn Haley (Canandaigua), who finished third in the 3-meter event.
