Ziya Arnavut chaired conference in Istanbul

Dr. Ziya Arnavut, professor of computer and information sciences at SUNY Fredonia, chaired the Ninth High-Capacity Networks and Emerging/Enabling Technologies conference, held Dec. 12-14 in Istanbul, Turkey, in cooperation with the Kadir Has University. The conference was technically sponsored by the Institute of Electric and Electronic Engineers (IEEE), the world’s largest professional association for advancement of technology.

New international students arrive for spring term

With the outside temperature hovering in the single digits Tuesday morning, SUNY Fredonia extended a warm welcome to dozens of new international students who have arrived on campus for the spring term at a welcoming ceremony at Rosch Recital Hall. Numerous flags representing the homelands of all 235 of SUNY Fredonia’s international students, both undergraduate and graduate, were displayed above the stage. International enrollment has grown by over 60 students compared to the fall 2012 term, with seven nations represented among this newest class, including China, India, Jamaica, Japan, Nigeria, Saudi Arabia and South Korea.

J-Term underway; 40 classes include seven abroad

J-Term at SUNY Fredonia, which began this week, features 40 class sections, 11 online sections and seven study abroad opportunities, according to Lifelong Learning and Special Programs. International courses are taking place in Ghana, India, Spain, Ireland, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, and Belize.
