The all-female a cappella group The Riveters will present its annual fall show, "80s Aca-Glam Jam” on Sunday, Nov. 17, at 2 p.m. in the Williams Center Tim Horton's cafe. The Riveters will be dressed in full '80s "glam" attire as they debut new songs, medleys and some '80s a cappella favorites. The event is free and open to the public.
The Hillman Opera will present two performances of Gioachino Rossini’s famous work “La Cenerentola” (Cinderella) in November at SUNY Fredonia. It will be a staged concert version of the classic opera, sung in the original Italian with English supertitles projected above the stage. Performances will be presented at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 15 and Saturday, Nov. 16 in King Concert Hall.

Orchesis Dance Company proudly presents, “Orchesis Unplugged,” on Saturday, Nov. 9 at 8 p.m. in Mason Hall Room 1080. The annual show will feature many talented SUNY Fredonia dancers and choreographers performing various genres of dance including modern, jazz, and tap.
When the opera, “La Cenerentola,” (Cinderella) is presented at SUNY Fredonia in November, it will represent a special milestone – 60 years of collaboration between the Hillman Memorial Music Association and the college.
SUNY Fredonia will hold a gathering to remember the life of Thomas Dean Wednesday, Nov. 20 at 4 p.m. in the Horizon Room. Family members have also planned a celebration of his life at the Cornell Cooperative Extension, 4487 Lake Ave., in Lockport, N.Y., this Wednesday, Nov. 6, at 5 p.m. All are welcome to attend, and the Office of Residence Life is offering students free bus transportation to and from the Lockport event. His family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations would be gratefully accepted to the Thomas Dean Memorial Fund, at http://go.fredonia.edu/ThomasDeanMemorial.
SUNY Fredonia’s Hillel, the Jewish Student Union and part of the Center of Multicultural Affairs office on campus, will celebrate the Festival of Lights with a Hannukah brunch on Saturday, Nov. 16 at 11 a.m. in the Horizon Room in the Williams Center. The event is free and open to the campus and community. Tickets are not required.
SUNY Fredonia is deeply saddened to report that one of its students, Thomas Dean, 21, of Newfane, N.Y., passed away unexpectedly Saturday morning. A senior, Mr. Dean was completing an English major with a Creative Writing minor.
Students from the Department of History’s Honors Capstone Class will present, “Conflict and Crisis in Africa,” their senior capstone conference, on Wednesday, Nov. 13, from 3 to 7 p.m., at Williams Center Room 204 A-E. Brendan Bannon, a Western New York photojournalist based in Nairobi, Kenya, will deliver the keynote address.
Women, Rock and Soul provides students, faculty/staff and members of the Fredonia community an opportunity to perform feminist and women-friendly spoken-word and music. The annual event is slated for Wednesday, Oct. 30, from 6 to 9 p.m. in the Williams Center Multipurpose Room.
