Youth Filmmaking Project winning awards around globe

The Youth Filmmaking Project, led by SUNY Fredonia’s Communication Department Chair Ted Schwalbe and Associate Professor Nefin Dinc, received a $9,300 grant from the American Embassy in Ankara, Turkey to distribute and screen the award-winning films. So far, seven of the films have won awards at various film festivals.

Aimee Nezhukumatathil, English Professor, is a featured presenter at the 2011 conference of the Association of Writers and Writing Programs held in Washington, D.C., February 2 through 5. She will be a panelist in two sessions: "How to Make a Poem," and "Outsiders Writing the Outdoors."

Mariner's Mirror publishes article by Markus Vink

A review article by Markus Vink, professor of history, has been published in the latest issue of "The Mariner's Mirror," an internationally-renowned, peer-reviewed journal of The Society for Nautical Research, featuring articles on naval and maritime history, nautical archaeology and all aspects of seafaring and lore of the sea.

Administrative Division honors five for annual award

Five SUNY Fredonia employees, whose collective service spans more than a half-century and all five major departments within the Administration division, have received Outstanding Administrative Service Awards in recognition of exemplary service during 2010. The honorees are Joe Fabritius, Terri Helwig, Randy Goodemote, Rebecca Krzyzanowicz, and Judy Langworthy.

ASCAP honors composer James Piorkowski

For the 11 th year in a row, the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers has bestowed its ASCAPLUS Award, an honor reserved for artists whose works are most often performed in public venues, to James Piorkowski, SUNY Fredonia Distinguished Professor of Guitar.
