New bands will battle it out Thursday night for annual competition and concert

Four bands, all created and managed by SUNY Fredonia students in the Music Industry Club, will compete to win 10 hours of studio recording time at GCR Audio in Buffalo during the fourth annual Battle of the New Bands on Thursday, Nov. 15 at 7 p.m. The bands are La Vida Mia (acoustic folk), Boss Tweed (Rock), The Shockers (female rock), and I Thought I was Taller (punk rock).

Frank and Sallie Pullano to receive Jessie Hillman Award for Excellence

Dr. Frank and Sallie (Shapley) Pullano will receive the Jessie Hillman Award for Excellence at the Saturday, Nov. 10, Hillman Opera performance in Marvel Theatre. Specially designed medals will be presented to the couple at 7:30 p.m. before the curtain rises on this year’s Hillman Opera. The Hillman Memorial Music Association bestows the honor to recognize dedicated and respected musicians or educators.

SUNY Fredonia welcomes Vanessa and Helen (Class of '60) Williams back to campus for presentation and book signing

Internationally acclaimed entertainer Vanessa Williams and her mother, Helen Tinch Williams, a member of the Class of 1960, will appear on SUNY Fredonia’s campus Saturday, Nov. 10 at 2 p.m. in Diers Recital Hall. The two have recently co-authored a collective autobiography, You Have No Idea, that characterizes the enduring relationship that aided Vanessa through a series of challenges which arose after she was crowned the first African-American Miss America in 1983.
