A capella "Guerrillas" selected to compete in nationally televised competition

Singing groups featured on the series are eligible to win a $10,000 grand prize — and The Guerrillas need listener votes to have a chance. The eight-week season will air episodes weekly beginning in June. GMC producers sought out The Guerrillas after viewing their performances on YouTube. The group was asked to record two new songs to be featured on the show.

Donald Lang bike mission for cancer: update

Lang’s legion of supporters back home -- who each chipped in $30 towards a goal of $6,000 for Roswell -- were treated to an email dispatch and early-morning photograph of Lang dipping the rear wheel of his 24-speed bicycle into the Pacific Ocean. And they’ll continue receiving exclusive updates on Lang’s Facebook page.

Acclaimed Harpist Rita Costanzi to perform "A Score to Settle" this Sunday

On Sunday, April 3 at 6 p.m., Rosch Recital Hall Guest Artist Rita Costanzi performs "A Score to Settle," written by Kico Gonzalez-Risso and directed by Arthur Masella. This is a tell-all tale of music, passion and a very large instrument. The event is free and open to the public. Costanzi has established an international reputation as concert performer, recording artist, actor, teacher, writer, composer and public speaker.

"The Sound of Music" opens April 1 as next Mainstage offering

More than 100 students, including a cast of 35 and an orchestra of 32, are involved in this Walter Gloor Mainstage Series production of the popular musical. “The Sound of Music” runs from April 1 to 9 in Marvel Theatre at Rockefeller Arts Center. It is a Walter Gloor Mainstage event produced by the Department of Theatre and Dance in association with the School of Music.

Masterworks Benefit Concert April 17 features French impressionism

The SUNY Fredonia School of Music presents this year’s Masterworks Scholarship Benefit Concert on Sunday, April 17 at 4 p.m. in King Concert Hall on the SUNY Fredonia campus. This “Afternoon of French Impressionism” includes more than 100 voices of the Masterworks Chorus combined with the full College Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Dr. David Rudge.

Buffalo Chamber Players to give debut campus performance

On Friday, Mar. 25, the Buffalo Chamber Players will give its first performance at SUNY Fredonia with “Sex & Politics,” a new work by faculty composer Rob Deemer with guest soprano Tony Arnold. Written for the Buffalo Chamber Players, “Sex & Politics” is scored for voice and a nine-piece ensemble of strings, woodwinds and brass.
