Mileage reimbursement rate increased

Effective January 1, 2013, the mileage reimbursement rate increased to 56.5 cents per mile from 55.5 cents per mile. For those needing to complete travel vouchers for trips taken during the first half of the 2012-2013 fiscal year (July 1, 2012 – December 31, 2012), please use the reimbursement rate of 55.5 cents per mile.

Employees give generously to SEFA

For the 17th year in a row, donations made by SUNY Fredonia employees to the annual SEFA (State Employees’ Federated Appeal) campaign have exceeded the goal, which was set at $45,000 for 2012 drive. Contributions through Dec. 17 reached $48,647 – more than 8 percent above the 2012 target. The annual campaign provides funding throughout the year to support health and human services agencies that aid people of all ages and backgrounds in this area and also across the state. Contributions can still be made to this year’s campaign at http://www.fredonia.edu/about/offices/state-employee-federated-appeal.

Re-Start is for non-traditional students

Re-Start, is a SUNY Fredonia student organization for non-traditional students that meets every Monday night at 6 p.m. in Thompson Hall. Non-traditional students include older or returning students, veterans, and or single parents. The organization is new and is seeking to interest all non-traditional students to join. Meetings continue next semester. The group's goals include offering advice, and a place where non-traditional students can openly discuss any concerns that they may have.

SUNY Fredonia indicates support for diversity in Campus Climate Index

“Reaping the Harvest of Reaching OUT to SUNY,” a 2012 grant initiative conducted at SUNY Fredonia, has achieved several of its goals of gathering information and developing initiatives to promote awareness related to diversity in LGBTQ issues. Following submission of the data to Campus Pride, a non-profit organization administering the climate index, SUNY Fredonia received an overall score of 3.5 out of 5 stars, better than average for a university of Fredonia’s size and geographic location.

Frank and Sallie Pullano to receive Jessie Hillman Award for Excellence

Dr. Frank and Sallie (Shapley) Pullano will receive the Jessie Hillman Award for Excellence at the Saturday, Nov. 10, Hillman Opera performance in Marvel Theatre. Specially designed medals will be presented to the couple at 7:30 p.m. before the curtain rises on this year’s Hillman Opera. The Hillman Memorial Music Association bestows the honor to recognize dedicated and respected musicians or educators.

SUNY Fredonia welcomes Vanessa and Helen (Class of '60) Williams back to campus for presentation and book signing

Internationally acclaimed entertainer Vanessa Williams and her mother, Helen Tinch Williams, a member of the Class of 1960, will appear on SUNY Fredonia’s campus Saturday, Nov. 10 at 2 p.m. in Diers Recital Hall. The two have recently co-authored a collective autobiography, You Have No Idea, that characterizes the enduring relationship that aided Vanessa through a series of challenges which arose after she was crowned the first African-American Miss America in 1983.
