Comics coming to campus Feb. 19

Judah Friedlander, proclaimed by “30 Rock” creator and co-star Tina Fey as “one of the all-time greatest weirdos,” will treat local audiences to his engaging and crowd-pleasing stand-up humor at King Concert Hall on Wednesday, Feb. 19, at 8 p.m. Also appearing are comedians Jermaine Fowler and Kevin Barnett, who can be seen on shows such as MTV's "Guy Code" and "College Humor." The event is sponsored by the Student Association and is suggested for mature audiences.

Enactus team works for economic progress in Belize

A team of SUNY Fredonia’s Fred Global Enactus students traveled to Belize to begin their mission of empowering local artisans to improve their standard of living. The team formed strategic partnerships with the National Institute of Culture and History and the Rotary Club of Belize to help in this effort and support Belizean children’s education.

Meeting to explore Russia study abroad learning experience

An informational meeting that explores SUNY Fredonia’s Study Abroad to Russia summer course will be offered to interested students on Thursday, Feb. 13, at 6:30 p.m. at W231 Thompson Hall. Jack Croxton, director of the Office of Student Creative Activity and Research, and Anton Agafonov of Modern Languages and Literatures, will conduct a presentation highlighted by a slide show.

Train trek across Canada spotlighted in travel film series

The many miles of railroad track that traverse Canada take travelers on a scenic journey steeped in the history of the country. Those rails will be explored in detail when Rockefeller Arts Center presents, “The Great Canadian Train Ride,” on Saturday, Feb. 15 at 7:30 p.m. in King Concert Hall.

Chinese New Year Dinner to celebrate year of the horse Feb. 16

SUNY Fredonia’s Chinese Club invites the campus and community to celebrate year of the horse on Sunday, Feb. 16. According to the Chinese lunar calendar, the celebration of the year of the horse begins on Friday, Jan. 31 and ends on Friday, Feb. 14. The dinner will take place in the Multipurpose Room of the William Center at 6 p.m. Student tickets are $6 and general admission is $8. Tickets are available at the SUNY Fredonia Ticket Office and online via the ticket office website.

Italian Germanist visits Stefan Zweig Archives at Reed Library

The Stefan Zweig Archives in Reed Library received a visit in October 2013 by Dr. Arturo Larcati, an Italian Germanist who teaches at the University of Verona, Italy, and lives in Salzburg, Austria, that will further enhance SUNY Fredonia’s connection to the acclaimed Austrian-Jewish writer of the early 20th century.

Learning Center now hiring student tutors for next year

The College Tutoring Services (CTS) office, together with the Learning Center, the Full Opportunity Program, Disability Support Services for Students and the Educational Development Program, is now hiring students to join its tutoring staff for the 2014/2015 academic year. The deadline to apply is Friday, March 14 by 4 p.m.

Activites Night tonight in Steele Hall

The traditional SUNY Fredonia Activities Night will take place Wednesday, Feb. 5 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the Steele Hall basketball arena. Over 120 student groups and activities will be represented, and students are welcome to browse the tables and sign up for clubs and organizations that interest them.
