The Fredonia Department of Theatre and Dance concludes its 2015-16 Walter Gloor Mainstage Series in with six performances of a classic children’s fantasy piece that has all-ages appeal. “James and the Giant Peach” will be presented on April 22, 23, 28, 29 and 30 at 7:30 p.m. and April 24 at 2 p.m. in Bartlett Theatre.
The Musical Journeys Program of the School of Music concludes its 10th season of free concerts designed to appeal to very young children on Saturday, April 30, at the Darwin R. Barker Library in Fredonia. The Fredonia Guitar Quartet will perform half-hour children's concerts with two performances, one at 10:30 a.m. and one at 11:30 a.m.
Fredonia alumna Anne (Barr) Martinez, ’01, a singer, dancer and actor currently working in Las Vegas, will be on campus as a visiting artist at Fredonia on Saturday, April 23. Ms. Martinez will be offering a dance call, a singing workshop and hold a Q&A for all Department of Theatre and Dance majors and minors.
The Fredonia gospel choir, Divine Sound, will host the Gospel Explosion on Sunday, April 24 at 5 p.m. in the Williams Center Multipurpose Room. The evening of entertainment will contain numbers performed by Divine Sound along with featured performances by the SUNY Buffalo State Spirit Choir and gospel recording group, Laos in Harmony.
The Fredonia Technology Incubator will exhibit works by students Michael Fridmann and Heather Radford in its art gallery from Monday, March 14 through Friday, April 22.
The 26th annual Fredonia Summer Music Festival will be held from Sunday, June 26 through Saturday, July 2. The festival continues its tradition of excellence with the Honors Solo Vocal Camp for students interested in further developing their skills as a solo classical vocalist. The registration deadline is Monday, May 16.
Talent from both the campus and the local community will come together when Rockefeller Arts Center presents its traditional Commencement Eve Pops concert on Friday in King Concert Hall.
Sam Wolfe Connelly, a New York City-based artist and illustrator, will speak at the fourth installment of the Fredonia Technology Incubator’s Arts and Business Luncheon series on Friday, April 22. Mr. Connelly will present his work and explore a variety of related topics that include marketing, merchandising, attracting and keeping clients and gaining access to prominent galleries.
The New Horizons Band of Western New York, which provides a unique opportunity for veteran musicians as well as aspiring musicians who are at least 50 years of age to play a band instrument, is celebrating its 10th anniversary at Fredonia during the spring semester. The band’s spring concert will be presented on Tuesday, April 26, 7:30 p.m., in King Concert Hall.
Works created by 12 graduating seniors of the Department of Visual Arts and New Media will be on display in an exhibition opening on Friday, April 29 in the Cathy and Jesse Marion Art Gallery. The exhibition, titled “Senior Show 2,” opens with a reception from 7 to 9 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
