Tyler Tumminia, daughter of a baseball scout who named her after Ty Cobb, will give a talk on campus Wednesday, Nov. 16 at 6 p.m. in Thompson Hall W101 on the subject of using social media to generate fan relationships. She is the guest of the Sports Management and Exercise Science Club. The event is free and open to all.
Five student athletes from SUNY Fredonia were among the 12 recently selected by the SUNY Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) as Players of the Week. They are: Sarah Zureck (volleyball), Elizabeth Schake (swimming), John Rodman (diving), Reilly Condidorio (soccer), and Sarah Ficarro (diving).

Alumna Julia Williamson is one of several new assistant coaches hired in Athletics this year. She has joined the cross country and track and field programs. Recently married, Williamson is the former Julia Hopson, a 2009 graduate of Fredonia State. She was a five-time All-American with the Blue Devils and a 2009 NCAA Division III national champion in the women's 20-pound weight throw.
A roster devoid of seniors has interim head coach Tom Wilson optimistic about the 2011 Fredonia State men's cross country team, and beyond. The key returners are juniors Jake Krautwurst, Ryan Delaney and Jack Bennett; and sophomore Nico Piacentini. A solid junior college transfer and a freshmen class with impressive high school credentials will join them.
The Fredonia State women's cross country team is young. One of two seniors on the roster, Amanda Solly, is ready to lead the team into the 2011 season. Solly was her team's No. 1 runner in one meet in 2010, was No. 4 once, and No. 5 twice. She will have to help fill the void left by Becca List's decision to sit out this fall to let a knee injury heal. List was the Blue Devils' top runner most of last season.
Legendary Fredonia State men's track and field coach Jim Ulrich has been elected to the Niagara Track and Field Hall of Fame.
“I’ve never seen anything like this before in my track and field career,” Fredonia State Head Coach Tom Wilson said of Guarino’s performance. “It takes a lot of guts and a lot of hard work and a lot a trust in yourself to come back and win two races in 90 minutes.”

Fredonia State Assistant Director of Athletics and Senior Woman Administrator Megan Valentine was a guest lecturer during the 5th annual SUNYAC Symposium, held May 24-26 at SUNY New Paltz. Speaking on the topic "I Got The Job: What Now?," Valentine told her audience -- comprised of students from SUNYAC campuses -- about her first year on the job at Fredonia State. She was appointed to her post prior to the start of the 2010-11 academic year.
