All-American Novara finishes 29th at nationals

Fredonia State sophomore Eddie Novara (Angola/Lake Shore) finished 29 th overall – and third best among all SUNYAC men – at the NCAA Division III cross country championships. Novara’s top 35 performance earned him All-American status. He was running in the national meet for the first time

Soccer's Clarion Classic highlights new features at Stadium

A dedication for the completion of Phase II of the soccer stadium including a new entrance, was held during the Men's and Women's Soccer annual tournament, the Clarion Classic Friday evening. The stadium, which began operating in 2007 once the fields, lights and bleachers were installed, now boasts such amenitities as a new entrance and traffic circle, ticket office, restrooms, team meeting rooms, concession stands and a press box.

In 44 years of Fredonia State athletics, the campus never had a female NCAA national champion. Now it has two. Nobody saw this coming. Four years ago, as two freshmen from opposite ends of the state unloaded their relatively sparse possessions from their parents’ cars, no one could have envisioned how their collegiate journeys might end.

SUNYAC cites Blue Devils for academics

Sixty-nine Fredonia State winter and spring student-athletes received SUNYAC recognition for their academics following the 2009 spring semester. Thirty-two of the Blue Devils achieved both Commissioner's List and All-Academic Team honors for carrying at least a 3.3 grade-point average during the season they competed and two other semesters prior to this spring.

Guitar Quartet to embark on Spain tour

The Fredonia Guitar Quartet will soon be departing for a concert tour of Spain. This student guitar ensemble, directed by Music Professor James Piorkowski, has been invited to perform at the Conservatorio Superior de Música de Sevilla (May 22nd), the Centro de Estudios Hispánicos de Segovia - a 15th-century palace in Nieva (May 24), and at the Universidad de Oviedo (May 26).

Sponholz sets NCAA diving record, wins national title

Kelly Sponholz became the second Fredonia State national champion in less than a week, and she did so by setting a new NCAA Division III record in the 3-meter diving event during the NCAA championships held in Minneapolis, Minn. on Wednesday, March 18.
