Exhibition at Fordham tips off '17-18 slate of games

A men's basketball exhibition game against an NCAA Division I opponent highlights the Fredonia men's basketballl 2017-18 schedule, released Aug. 4. The Blue Devil men's basketball team will kick of its 2017-18 season Fri., Nov. 3 when it visits Fordham of the Atlantic 10. The game will be preceded by a pre-game reception from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.

Bartlett, Carlson make CSCAA academic list

Add one more honor to the resumes of storied Fredonia divers Meghan Bartlett (Johnstown, N.Y. / Johnstown) and Arron Carlson (LeRoy /Notre Dame). The College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America earlier this summer recognized the pair as Scholar All-Americans. It is the second such honor for Bartlett, the first for Carlson.

Three Devils earn USTFCCCA academic honors

The United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association cited the Fredonia women's track team for its combined 3.30 grade-point average, resulting in a place on the All-Academic Team list. Two of the team members, Mikayla Capestrani (Jamestown/Jamestown) and Anneliese Bienko (Clarence/Clarence), received USTFCCCA All-Academic awards. Men's team member Justyn Haines (Albion/Albion), was also named USTFCCCA All-Academic.

Feldman earns 2nd All-America certificate

Fredonia junior sprinter Brittany Feldman (Jamestown/Southwestern) finished seventh May 28 in the women's 400-meter final at the NCAA Division III Track & Field championship meet. The seventh-place finish earned Feldman her second All-America award.

Early-leader Collins 17th in NCAA 5K

Seconds after finishing his final collegiate event, the NCAA Division III Men's 5,000 meters, Fredonia fifth-year senior Kyle Collins (Suffern/Suffern) started shaking hands. Here and there, a fellow competitor had sat down to take a much-needed rest. Collins went over to a couple of them and helped them to their feet. And when, one by one, the men left the infield at The Spire Institute, Collins was one of the last to leave. He was favoring every final second.

Fredonia Director of Athletics Prechtl announces retirement

Director of Athletics Greg Prechtl met with athletic department members this week and announced his retirement after 44 years as a coach and athletic administrator. Vice President of Student Affairs Cedric Howard said Mr. Prechtl will assume the title of Athletic Director Emeritus and will continue to oversee the Blue Devil Booster Club. He added that Associate Director of Athletics Megan Valentine will serve as interim director.

Medina, Zaprowski tabbed All SUNYAC

Following the 2017 season, senior Alexio Medina (Marilla/Iroquois) was named an All SUNYAC outfielder, and junior Steve Zaprowski (Williamsville/Williamsville South) was named as a utility player. Medina paced the Blue Devil offense with 9 doubles, 4 home runs, 18 RBI, and 8 stolen bases. Zaprowski played all three outfield positions, designated hitter and appeared in six games on the mound.

Top Rookie Yudin, Pixley make All-SUNYAC

Two Fredonia Blue Devils, including a top freshman, have been chosen to the 2017 SUNYAC Softball All-Conference Team. Katie Yudin (Liverpool), a freshman, made the First Team as a utility player, while junior Lauren Pixley (Hamburg) was chosen as a Second Team outfielder.

Nance, Cheatham earn Ashe Jr. recognition

Two Fredonia senior student-athletes have been selected as 2017 Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholars. Diverse: Issues in High Education chose to honor Khee Nance (Dunkirk/Dunkirk) and Alexis Cheatham (Lockport/Lockport) for their athletic and academic achievement during their collegiate careers.

Yokopovich, Spiess selected All-SUNYAC

Two Fredonia Blue Devils were named today to the SUNYAC Women's Lacrosse All-Conference Team. Junior midfielder Audrey Yokopovich (Webster) and sophomore midfielder Samantha Spiess (Fairport) were Second Team selections following a vote of conference coaches.
