Frosh righties, Pixley's bat key Devil sweep

Fredonia earned its first sweep of its Florida trip Monday with wins over Bethany (W. Va.) and Gallaudet. Freshmen were in the circle for both wins. Sam Seegar (North Tonawanda) scattered nine hits -- not more than two an inning -- and struck out five as the Blue Devils downed Bethany, 2-1. Katie Yudin (Liverpool) allowed just two hits while blanking Gallaudet, 8-0. The Blue Devils improved to 8-4 -- 5-3 while in Florida.

Blitz and Rivera named to hockey team for 20th World Maccabiah Games

The Maccabi USA Ice Hockey Co-Chairs, Steven Cohen, Devra Schorr Pulley, and Philip Pulley, along with Head Coach Greg Gardner and Assistant Coach Casey Fratkin announced that two Fredonians have been named to the Open Men’s Ice Hockey Team for the 20th World Maccabiah Games, which will take place July 4-18, in Israel.

SUNYAC Elite 20 Award goes to Guarino in indoor track and field

Fredonia senior distance runner Kristen Guarino (Bergen/Byron-Bergen) is the SUNYAC Elite 20 Award winner for women's indoor track and field. A Childhood Education major, Guarino had a 4.0 grade-point average in the fall semester, with a cumulative average of 3.94.

Hofstead awarded SUNYAC Elite 20 medal

In January, the State University of New York Athletic Conference unveiled the Elite 20 Award to honor the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade point average competing at the finals site of each of its 20 championships. Fredonia senior Leanne Hofstead has won the award for women's tennis.

Feldman sets school mark, moves up 400 list

Fredonia junior Brittany Feldman (Jamestown/Southwestern) set a school indoor record in the women's 400 meters during Saturday's Tufts Final Qualifier. Feldman's 57.05 seconds has her setting at No. 8 on qualifying list for the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field championship meet next weekend in Napierville, Ill.

Starters, hitters stay hot

Ben Atkinson (Syracuse/Nottingham) tossed six scoreless innings as the Devils downed Lehman 8-4 in the final game for Fredonia in Myrtle Beach, in the third consecutive game a Fredonia starting pitcher did not allow a run.

Saturday sweep at Beach Blast

Fredonia won both its games Saturday during the Virginia Wesleyan University Beach Blast. The Blue Devils are off until Thursday afternoon when they take on Nebraska Wesleyan, the first of 12 games during The Spring Games in and around Clermont, Fla.

Top performances at St. John Fisher meet

Fredonia women had two individual winners and established eight personal-bests Saturday at the St. John Fisher Cardinal Classic. The wins were by Brittany Feldman (Jamestown) in the 200 meters in 26.03 seconds and Sarah Couperus (Marion, N.Y.) in the high jump with a clearance of 1.57 meters (5 fee, 1 3/4 inches).
