Meghan Bartlett (Johnstown, N.Y./Johnstown) finished in third place in the 3-meter diving competition at the Regional Meet at Cortland on Saturday. Bartlett was 0.70 from the second-place competitor and just 5.3 points from first place. A day earlier, Bartlett finished in fifth off the 1-meter board.
Playoff atmosphere. Overtime. Long threes. Comebacks. The 1,000-point Club. Tuesday's women's basketball had everything, including a Fredonia victory as the Blue Devils claimed an 89-81 matchup over visiting Brockport in the quarterfinals of the SUNYAC tournament.
The NCAA Division III Men's and Women's Track and Field Committee announced May 21 the participants in the 2016 NCAA Division III Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Three Fredonia Blue Devils are on the list.
Laura Morrison (Wethersfield, Conn./Wethersfield) added another school recod to her resume while competing Saturday in the Brockport Golden Eagle Invitational. Morrison, a senior, covered the 1,000 meters in 2:55.68. In addition to setting a school record and winning the race, Morrison's time broke the track record of 3:02.57 set by Fredonia alum Kim Foltz two years ago. Foltz also held the previous Blue Devil school record.
For the second year in a row, Meghan Bartlett (Johnstown, N.Y./Johnstown) won the conference championship in the women's 3-meter dive on the final day of SUNYAC Swimming and Diving Championships. Her first-place score of 489.30 was accompanied by Samantha Kowalewski's (Cowlesville/Attica) third place finish of 465.85.
Senior Zachary Jordon (Akron, N.Y./Akron) was named the SUNYAC Pitcher of the Week on Monday. Jordon tossed a four-hit shutout over Oneonta on Wednesday, striking out 11 and allowing two walks. He set the stage for a series sweep of the Red Dragons, while improving his record to 3-3 on the year. It was his third complete game in conference play.
In the most outstanding men's diving performance in the history of the conference, Fredonia's Arron Carlson (LeRoy/Notre Dame) set a new SUNYAC record in the 3-meter dive on the first day of SUNYAC Swimming and Diving Championships. Winning the team's first title of the meet, Carlson's score of 588.30 surpassed the previous conference record of 576.35, which had stood since 2008.
Fredonia freshman forward Jenna Einink (Mayville/Chautauqua Lake) has been named SUNYAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week. Einink is the first Fredonia freshman to receive a SUNYAC weekly award since at least the 2010-11 season.
The shot putters of the women's track and field team finished one-two-three while the men's team did the same in the weight throw at the Mid-February Meet at Baldwin Wallace on Friday.
