The mission of the Accounting Society shall be to support and promote interest in the accounting profession.
A part of the mission of the Accounting Society is to educate those with an interest in accounting. The Accounting Society accomplishes
this through regular activities or events.
General Meeting Speakers
At each of our six or seven general membership meetings, a speaker talks about their place of business, their position in it and their personal experiences involving their day-to-day activities on the job. Students hear the details of the day-to-day activiites of accountants in various positions.
Current information about this semester's speaker meetings can be found on Facebook and Twitter.
VITA - Volunteer Income Tax Assistance
The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program, which began in 1981, is co-sponsored by the Accounting Society with the Internal Revenue Service. Volunteers must complete online training on federal and NYS tax return preparation in order to help the elderly and low-income residents of the City of Dunkirk electronically file their federal and state income tax returns.
Business Etiquette Dinner
The Annual Business Etiquette Dinner, which began in 1991, teaches attendees the appropriate behavior required in a social setting. Each year the Leadership Corp students instruct attendees on such topics as appropiate behavior and discussion topics at the cocktail hour, dinner and other social engagements.
Educational Field Trip
Each year students decide where to travel on the Annual Educational Field Trip. Past years have included trips to the Buffalo Zoo, the Niagara Falls Aquarium, the Corning Museum of Glass, and the Hockey Hall of Fame and Museum in Toronto, the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame and the Federal Reserve Bank in Cleveland, and the Toronto Stock Exchange. Some students traveled to the New York Stock Exchange as well.
1. Meeting Attendance: Anyone who attends more than one-half of the general meetings during a semester qualifies as an Accounting Society member.
