The changing role of women in the Middle East will be the focus of Dr. Iclal Vanwesenbeeck’s presentation at the International Brown Bag Luncheon on Monday, Sept. 10, beginning at noon, at the Fenton Hall English Reading Room (Fenton 127). In her talk, “Middle Eastern Women: Tradition, Development and Change,” Vanwesenbeeck, English professor, will discuss local perspectives on women’s movement in Jordan and the Middle East and elaborate on current challenges and achievements of Jordanian women.
The fall edition of “Argumentation and Advocacy,” the flagship publication of the American Forensic Association, will feature an article written by Dr. Bond Benton, faculty member in the Department of Communication. His article, “Debate, Diversity, and Adult Learners: The Experiences of Foreign Nationals in the U.S. State Department," presents results of staff training that Dr. Benton conducted for the State Department.
Education Professor Kathleen Gradel recently concluded a busy summer of teaching off campus by collaboratively launching two newly-funded SUNY Provost office grants through the new IITG (Innovative Instruction Technology Grant) initiative. Dr. Gradel’s summer professional activities began in May, when she conducted three “people-packed” hands-on seminars at the SUNY Conference on Instruction & Technology at SUNY StonyBrook.
Dr. Neil Feit, chair of the Philosophy Department, has completed most of the editing of Attitudes De Se: Linguistics, Epistemology, Metaphysics, an interdisciplinary collection of essays by linguists and philosophers. The book is forthcoming from Stanford University’s CSLI Publications. Also this summer, Feit completed a paper on the concept of harm in ethics.

Dr. Cheryl Drout, Dr. Gary Lash and Dr. David Kinkela will be honored this fall during three lecture events. Drout won the President's Award for Excellence in Teaching last spring and will give the honorary lecture on Sept. 11. Lash is the annual Kasling Lecturer for the event planned Oct. 16, when Kinkela will be given the Hagan Young Scholar/Artist Award.

SUNY Fredonia has announced the appointment of Kevin Kearns as the Interim Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs for the 2012-2013 academic year, effective July 1. The appointment comes following a campus-wide nomination process, followed by interviews with several individuals. The college will engage in a national search for this position during the coming academic year, with the goal of appointing the new Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs to begin July 1, 2013.
