Empty Bowls fundraiser set, though soup not on menu
There won’t be any soup served at Empty Bowls due to COVID-19 restrictions, but the annual fundraiser will nevertheless be held on Saturday, Nov. 14, from noon to 3 p.m., to raise money to help feed the hungry in Chautauqua County.

Fredonia StartUp NY campus plan approved
A new door has been officially opened for economic development and job creation in Chautauqua County with formal approval last week by SUNY of the Fredonia StartUP NY campus plan, part of a statewide initiative launched by Governor Andrew Cuomo to create tax-free zones on or near institutions of higher education.
Bill Nye to speak this Thursday in Steele Hall
Note: As of noon today (9/18) - all tickets have been distributed for today's Convocation lecture by Bill Nye. For those holding tickets, doors to the fieldhouse will open at 2:30 p.m. for the 3:30 p.m. lecture. As part of the semester-long celebration of the opening of its new Science Center, Fredonia will welcome world-renowned scientist, engineer, comedian, author and inventor Bill Nye “The Science Guy” to campus as the Convocation series keynote speaker. His Thursday, Sept. 18, 3:30 p.m. appearance is slated for the Steele Hall Fieldhouse. The 2014-15 Convocation series theme is, “The Joy of Discovery.”
Campus unveils new name, visual identity
In June, the university announced a new name and visual identity. Going forward, it will be known as, “The State University of New York at Fredonia,” although in most contexts, it will be referred to simply as, “Fredonia.” The change comes in response to growing feedback, coupled with a yearlong research effort led by faculty, staff, student and alumni representatives from across the university, which revealed a degree of inconsistency, and even some confusion, among certain target audiences.
Fredonia Technology Incubator welcomes CCIDA and county planning department
The State University of New York at Fredonia’s Technology Incubator is welcoming the relocation of the County of Chautauqua Industrial Development Agency’s northern county offices to its facility, located in the central business district of Dunkirk. The move will provide greater coordination as the university launches its StartUp NY plan and enhances services to its entrepreneurs located in the Technology Incubator.
Fredonia Technology Incubator announces transition
The State University of New York at Fredonia announced today that the Fredonia Technology Incubator will enter a transition phase with the pending departure of its executive director and the beginning of new initiatives to provide expanded opportunities for job growth in the community.
Fredonia to host annual high school Math/Science Challenge
Nearly 400 students from 19 high schools in Western New York will flock to SUNY Fredonia to explore “Grease – STEM is the Word!” at the 14th annual Math/Science Challenge on Thursday, May 22. Seven activities or challenges have been designed by faculty in the Department of Mathematical Sciences, with support from colleagues in the remaining STEM disciplines (Science, Technology and Engineering).
Regional College Fair will be held at SUNY Fredonia on April 9
SUNY Fredonia and the New York State Association for College Admissions Counseling (NYSACAC) will be hosting a NYSACAC Regional College Fair on Wednesday, April 9, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the SUNY Fredonia Steele Hall Field House.The event is free and high school students are especially encouraged to attend. College students, community members, faculty and staff are also welcome.
