Boys and girls from Silver Creek, Dunkirk, Fredonia, Westfield and Brocton attended the five-day camp, and quickly were turned into “Playground Players,” an acting troupe, by the energetic staff. The Fredonia College Foundation’s Carnahan-Jackson Humanities Fund provided funding for scholarships that allowed more than a dozen additional children to attend the camp.
Award-winning children’s author Linda Sue Park will present, “Writing to Explore Liberty and Justice for All,” on Saturday, Oct. 25, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in room 209 of McEwen Hall. The event, which is part of SUNY Fredonia’s 2008-09 Convocation Series, is free and open to students, faculty and the general public.
Kathy Dyckes and Joyce Dziduch, secretaries with over six decades of combined service at SUNY Fredonia, shared the spotlight as recipients of separate awards at the SUNY Fredonia Secretarial/Clerical Professional Development Group’s fall conference.
A student-run workshop in media writing will be offered Monday, Oct. 20, at 6 p.m., to inform students of the proper ways to promote campus groups and events, focusing on how to contact the media and to increase publicity through the use of public relations tools.
The second annual Fred Ruterbusch Memorial 5K Run and Fun Run Mile takes place as part of Homecoming Weekend on Saturday, Oct. 18 at 10 a.m. behind Steele Hall. The Fun Run Mile will follow at 11 a.m. on the indoor track in Steele Hall, followed by the post-race awards ceremony. Proceeds benefit the Phillips Cross Country and Track & Field Endowment Fund.

Marian Wright Edelman, founder and president of the Children’s Defense Fund, will present the annual Maytum Convocation Lecture at SUNY Fredonia, “Human Rights: With Liberty and Justice for All?” on Wednesday, Sept. 24. She has also been named a Williams Distinguished Visiting Professor at Fredonia.
