The Fredonia campus is oozing with fun and chilling activities to celebrate Halloween. On Thursday, Oct. 31, the students and community can choose from a variety of events to help them get into the spirit.
Being hailed by her advisor who is also one of her professors as “a stellar student on top of it all” has earned Morgan Smith, a senior from Webster, N.Y., majoring in Environmental Sciences, the honor of September 2013 Student of the Month by the Office of Residence Life.
Eight SUNY Fredonia students engaged in summer research activities funded by grants from the National Science Foundation will outline their findings and experiences to the campus on Friday, Nov. 1, at 3 p.m. at Jewett Hall Room 101.
Elliott DeLine, an award-winning transgender fiction and non-fiction author, will conduct a book reading and signing at McEwen Hall Room 202 on Tuesday, Nov. 5, at 6 p.m. The Women’s and Gender Studies program, Women’s Student Union and Pride Alliance are sponsoring DeLine’s visit, which is free and open to the public.
Spurred by curiosity and seemingly boundless energy, a young research team combed the SUNY Fredonia campus in search of a bobcat, the answer to a perplexing physics problem and a sample of amethyst, a variety of quartz. These were not traditional college-age students, but 12 inquisitive members of the Boys’ and Girls’ Club of Northern Chautauqua County engaged in “The Great SUNY Fredonia Science Scavenger Hunt” on Wednesday, Oct. 16.
Eight graduate and undergraduate students will present findings of research they performed this past summer, under the guidance of SUNY Fredonia Biology faculty, on Friday, Oct. 25, from 3 to 5 p.m., at Jewett Hall Room 101. Financial support for their research was provided by a Yunghans-Mirabeli, Holmberg, Wettingfeld, Constantine Barker and Yunghans-Dieter Fellowships.
Students and alumni from the Department of Visual Arts and New Media will hold a sale of handmade pottery at the Williams Center Multipurpose Room on Monday, Nov. 4, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m
On Oct. 12 to 13, six students from the Department of Computer and Information Sciences participated in the programming competition HackUpstate, sponsored by Syracuse University and SUNY Oswego, and hosted at the Syracuse Technology Garden.
Parents and family members of SUNY Fredonia students will return to campus to celebrate Family Weekend from Friday, Oct. 25 to Sunday, Oct. 27. SUNY Fredonia’s annual Fall Sweep will take place Saturday, Nov. 9, from 9:30 a.m. to noon. Now in its ninth year, Fall Sweep is a yearly volunteer service initiative in which SUNY Fredonia students go out into the village of Fredonia to rake leaves off of their neighbors’ lawns to demonstrate the commitment they have to their community.
