Dan Berggren, retired communications professor who mentored numerous radio students, will be interviewed with his musical trio on the weekly campus radio program, High Noon Friday this week on Dec. 13 at noon. He will be interviewed and the trio will also perform on the program. He is in town for the concert at the 1891 Fredonia Opera House.
On Jan.1, SUNY Fredonia will join the growing list of colleges and universities across the U.S. who have adopted a tobacco-free campus policy. The policy prohibits all forms of tobacco and any nicotine delivery device, such as the smokeless e-cigarette.
‘Tis the season to be giving, and for the past 12 years the Iota chapter of the Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity of SUNY Fredonia has taken this to heart — and feet — by raising awareness and money for the charity, YouthAIDS with its annual, "Tree Trot for YouthAIDS. The fundraiser features a Christmas tree being carried, on foot, from Fredonia all the way to Lafayette Square in downtown Buffalo. This year’s event was Saturday, Dec 7 and marked the 13 th annual Tree Trot for YouthAIDS held by the fraternity.
On Wednesday, Dec. 11, the Annual Pottery Show and Sale will be held in the Multipurpose Room of the Williams Center at SUNY Fredonia from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. to benefit the University Police Criminal Justice Scholarship Fund (CJSF). Local potters will be selling their handcrafted mugs, trays, bowls, and jewelry and also donating a portion of their proceeds to benefit the scholarship fund through the Fredonia College Foundation.
A SUNY Fredonia biology student has won a national award sponsored by the Genetics Society of America (GSA). Nancy Levensailor was one of 11 students out of 52 applicants who won the 2014 Victory Finnerty Undergraduate Travel Award that recognizes the top tier of early career geneticists and covers their travel expenses to the prestigious conference. It will enable the senior Molecular Genetics major to attend and present her poster at the society’s 55th Drosophila Research Conference to be held March 26-30 in San Diego, Calif.
The Fall 2013 Liberal Arts and Sciences Brown Bag Lecture Series concludes on Wednesday, Dec. 4, with “Science and Technology,” a program which will examine the role of technology in areas of scientific research and some of the impacts of this technology on society. The presentation, moderated by Dr. Michael Jabot, professor of Curriculum and Instruction, will be held at noon in the Williams Center Room G103.
The holiday season will get underway at SUNY Fredonia with the traditional Hanging of the Greens on Tuesday, Dec. 3, from 6 to 8 p.m., at the Williams Center Multipurpose Room.
SUNY Fredonia faculty and staff can make healthy living a festive part of their holiday season by visiting the inaugural “Wellness for the Holidays” fair on Wednesday, Nov. 20, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Williams Center Multipurpose Room. Key attractions include healthy lunch items, live music, prize giveaways and information from area businesses that offer wellness products and services. Recipes for healthy meals will also be distributed.
“From Local to Global: Lessons Learned from the Cross-Cultural Learning Living Community,” is the second panel discussion of a four part event that allows international faculty and students to come together and share their stories with our campus community.
All faculty, staff, and students are invited to attend a panel presentation from SUNY Fredonia students regarding their cultural perspectives, concerns, and experiences. As the campus begins to ponder what it means to be and support a global community, people are asked to come engage with current international and culturally diverse students about their experiences living, learning, and participating in the Fredonia community.
