The movie “Bending the Arc,” which tells the story of the extraordinary doctors and activists who founded Partners in Health, a leading organization that advocates global health equity, will be shown in Science Center Room 105 (Kelly Family Auditorium) on Thursday, Feb. 13, at 7:30 p.m.
SUNY Fredonia junior Heaven Rollek, a member of the women's basketball team, is the recipient of the 2019 Fredonia Veterans Scholarship. A native of Springville, Ms. Rollek has served three and a half years in the U.S. Navy and holds the rank of Petty Officer Electronics Technician 2nd Class.
In January 2020, a group of students and faculty from Fredonia will be traveling to Honduras to conduct medical brigades. An artwork fundraising raffle has begun to raise funds to pay for medicine and health supplies that the group will bring to Honduras.
Dr. Nichol Eaton-Wolkiewicz, a licensed psychologist who will accompany Fredonia students on the study abroad medical mission to Honduras in January, will present a talk on Thursday, Oct. 17, at the Science Center Center’s Kelly Family Auditorium.
An academic program that enables students to earn B.S. and M.S. degrees in Biology in five years, instead of the conventional six years, is being launched at Fredonia. The B.S./M.S. multi-award program is intended for students with specific career goals that require advanced degrees as well as those who haven’t chosen a profession and want to do advanced research or perform an additional internship before applying to graduate or medical school or other health professions program.
When students at Fredonia complete Medical Technology courses, fulfill graduation requirements and pass the national certification exam, they’ll be positioned to hit the ground running – straight to a high-paying job. In fact, all 10 students on track to complete hospital internships in August already have multiple job offers on the table.
Seven top-tier summer research internships, including Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) grants funded by the National Science Foundation, have been awarded to students in Department of Biology programs at Fredonia.
Seniors who will attend medical or other professional schools this fall will share insight into the application process with fellow students at the Accepted Student Panel, an annual event hosted by the Health Professions Advising Committee, on Wednesday, May 8, at 7 p.m. at Science Center Room 122.
Advanced degrees in medicine, optometry, pharmacy, chiropractic, physical therapy and veterinary science, along with doctorates in biology and chemistry, will be the goal in the next educational chapters of 17 members of the Class of 2019. They comprise one of the largest cohorts of students continuing their education in doctoral and health professions schools in the last 10 years at Fredonia.
Junior Olivia Connor, who ventured outside of the usual academic convention by pursuing degrees in Biology and Visual Arts and New Media: Drawing and Painting, has landed a unique summer internship that will combine these seemingly distant disciplines: medical illustration. This summer, Ms. Connor will gain valuable insight into this highly specialized field at Mayfield Brain and Spine Institute, a full-service patient care provider in Cincinnati.
