Devil divers sweep at home invitational

Two Fredonia senior springboard divers were victorious in all four competitions held over the weekend at the Blue Devil Invitational. Meghan Bartlett and Aaron Carlson won the 3-meter and 1-meter contests.

Devils stay unbeaten

A balanced scoring attack kept the Fredonia women's basketball team undefeated as they dropped Pitt-Bradford, 77-68, on Saturday. They improved to 4-0. Alexis Cheatham (Lockport /Lockport) was one of four Devils to score in double digits, finishing with 17 points, including five three pointers. Kathryn Halloran (Angola/Immaculata) finished with 13 points and a team-high nine rebounds.

Maloney assumes fitness role

Jon-Ryan Maloney has had since August to take on the task of getting Fredonia Blue Devil student-athletes fit for practices and competitions. In reality, he's been in the role for much longer than the start of the 2016-17 academic year, when he officially became Fitness Center Director/Strength and Conditioning Coach following a national search. Holder of two Fredonia degrees, Maloney began working with the Blue Devils since his undergraduate days.

Bartlett wins third straight SUNYAC honor

The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) swimming and diving weekly awards list released Nov. 23 had a familiar name to Fredonians. For the third straight week, Fredonia senior Meghan Bartlett (Johnstown, N.Y./Johnstown) was chosen SUNYAC Women's Diver of the Week. Her latest honor was the result of two wins Nov. 19 at a dual meet at Nazareth.

Wilbur wins weekly SUNYAC award

A six-point weekend has earned Fredonia sophomore forward Samuel Wilbur (Saginaw, Mich.) the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Men's Ice Hockey Athlete of the Week award on Nov. 21. In addition to the six points, Wilbur had a plus-three rating during Fredonia's home-and-home series with Morrisville.

Devils hold off Hawks to stay unbeaten

Fredonia improved to 3-0 with an 86-81 women's basketball win Nov. 22 over the Hilbert Hawks. Jenna Einink (Westfield/Chautauqua Lake) scored nine straight points during the fourth quarter to keep Hilbert from mounting a late rally. The Hawks had just pulled within a point, 70-69, on a three-point basket by Taylor Corts.

Rarest of rare 100-point games in opener

Fredonia's 100-point output in its 2016-17 women's basketball season-opening win Nov. 15 vs. Penn State Behrend was unprecedented. It was the first time in 35 seasons dating back to 1982-83 the Blue Devils have reached triple digits in an opening game -- and only the second 100-point game in program history.

'Pink The Rink' presale tickets will be available for Jan. 21 game in Steele Hall

The Fredonia men’s hockey team will host its annual “Pink the Rink” game on Saturday, Jan. 21, at 7 p.m. in the Steele Hall Ice Arena. The Blue Devils will take on Post University in an exciting NCAA contest. It will be the 10th year the team has held the “Pink the Rink” game and players will be wearing a new style jersey unlike any worn in past years. All proceeds from the sale of the jerseys will go to the American Cancer Society and all available jerseys have been purchased for this year’s event.

Free throws decisive as men fall to Geneseo

Fredonia fell in overtime to Geneseo 93-83 in SUNYAC men's basketball Tuesday at the Steele Hall Fieldhouse. Kevin Crockett scored the first nine points in overtime on consecutive three-point shots and a conventional three-point play to give his team an insurmountable 76-67 lead. Fredonia missed its first six shots and had a turnover while they were being outscored 10-0 during the stretch.

Ritchie, three others chosen All-SUNYAC

Jimmy Ritchie (East Aurora/East Aurora) and three teammates -- two from the same hometown and high school -- were chosen to the SUNYAC Men's Soccer All-Conference Team announced Monday. Ritchie, a senior forward, was selected to Second Team while senior forward Parker Healy (East Aurora/East Aurora), senior midfielder Ryan Keller (East Aurora/East Aurora), and senior midfielder Bryan Sibble (Liverpool/Cicero-North Syracuse) made the Third Team.
