Eric Williams (Batavia, N.Y.) finished fourth in the 60-meter high hurdles on March 8 at the ECAC Division III Indoor Track & Field championship meet in Boston, Mass., posting a time of 8.33 seconds, just .02 off the previous meet record.
"Disney on Ice,” the theme of this year’s SUNY Fredonia ice skating spring recitals, will be presented in two different shows, on Sunday, March 23, at 3 p.m. and Tuesday, March 25, at 6:15 p.m., in the Steele Hall Ice Arena.The children, from age 4 through mid-teens, are enrolled in the college’s Learn to Skate program, which meets each week during the winter season.
Fredonia senior Ashley Keller (Lockport, N.Y.) won both the NCAA Division III regional 3-meter and 1-meter championships this weekend at Rochester Institute of Technology, and will be once again representing the Blue Devils at the national meet in Indianapolis from March 19-22. Fredonia's Arron Carlson (LeRoy, N.Y.), who scored 478.1 points to win his 3-meter event in his freshmen year, will be joining her, after winning the men's regional qualifier Friday, as will senior Katelyn Haley (Canandaigua), who finished third in the 3-meter event.
Five Blue Devil men and four Blue Devil women were selected to All-SUNYAC swimming teams. One of the men's First Team choices, senior John Estanislau, was also named the winner of the James Fulton Award.
Fredonia's springboard diving dominance at the conference level continued at the SUNYAC Swimming & Diving championship held this weekend. Senior Ashley Keller (Lockport, N.Y.) was named Female Diver of the Meet for the second straight year, while teammates Katelyn Haley (Canandaigua), Heather Colby (Oswego) and Breena Cogliandro (Penfield) finished second, third and fifth, respectively.
Fredonia State closed the regular season Saturday with a 74-73 road win over Potsdam in SUNYAC women's basketball. Next up is a SUNYAC Tournament game Tuesday.
Women's basketball standout Becky Hebert (Hilton, N.Y.) was named today to the 2014 Capital One Academic All-America ® team by the College Sports Information Directors of America. She is one of just of 15 women to be selected nationally from the eight NCAA Division III regions.
Sophomore sprinter Anna Dambacher (Divernon, Ill./Auburn) has been named Women's Track Athlete of the Week by the State University of New York Athletic Conference. She is the first Fredonia State women to receive the award this winter.
All five starters scored double figures as the Blue Devils defeated New Paltz, 81-59 last Saturday. The team's fourth-straight win, the victory also clinched a playoff berth. Now in fourth place with four games left, the team hosts its regular-season finale this weekend, when it plays host to Geneseo on Friday and Brockport on Saturday, for Senior Day.
