A native of Java Center, in rural Western New York, Spencer Lefort grew up on his family’s dairy farm and was exposed to long, hard days in the barns. He graduated in May with a 3.65 grade-point average as a triple business major: Accounting, Economics and Finance.
With a ceremonial cutting of a string of exercise bands, SUNY Fredonia students, university officials and guests opened the new Blue Devil Fitness Center in February, punctuating a long-awaiting enhancement that has already proven to be among the most welcomed and successful campus additions in years.

No. 17 Fredonia State rolled over Potsdam, 18-4, to improve to 14-0 and tie a single-season team record for wins in a season. The Blue Devils, 6-0 in the SUNYAC, matched the 14 wins recorded by last year's team en route to Fredonia State's first-ever NCAA appearance in women's lacrosse. There are two regular-season games remaining -- Tuesday at Brockport, and next Saturday at No. 4 Cortland.
Figure skating teacher's assistant, junior coach and former student Christina Walczyk has been selected by Disney on Ice as a figure skater in its national tour. Walczyk was the only one who passed through the rigorous auditions held in Toronto recently. She was one among contestants from all over the United States and Canada.
Fredonia State is No. 20 in the NCAA Division III Week 7 rankings released this morning. It's the first time the Blue Devils have ever cracked the Top 20 after receiving votes in the Week 5 and Week 6 rankings this year and in three weekly polls and the final poll last year. Fredonia State has sponsored women's varsity lacrosse since 1996. Junior Katie Kleine (Cazenovia, N.Y./Cazenovia) was named the SUNYAC Women's Lacrosse Player of the Week on Monday.
Working women who are finding it increasingly difficult to “have it all” are invited to attend “Fit, Well and Working,” the 2013 Spring Program of the Council for Women’s Concerns, on Wednesday, April 10, at 10 a.m. at the Bob Steele Multipurpose Room. Penny Hite, chair of the Department of Sports Management and Exercise Science SUNY Fredonia, will serve as the principal speaker.
Fredonia State's latest men's track and field All-American is senior Spencer Lefort (Java Center/Pioneer). Lefort moved up two places to finish seventh Saturday in the men's heptathlon at the 2013 NCAA Division III Track & Field championship meet at North Central College. The top eight finishers earned All-American recognition.
The State University of New York Athletic Conference announced its all-conference swimming and diving teams recently. The SUNYAC swimming and diving champions in each individual event earned a spot on the All-Conference First Team. The athletes who placed second and third in individual events are recognized on the All-Conference Second Team. The women's team finished third at the conference meet, while the men finished fourth.
