Fredonia senior midfielder Katie Kleine has been named by "Upper 90" magazine as the top NCAA Division III women's soccer player in Western New York. Kleine, also a SUNYAC First Team honoree, led the Blue Devils in goals, assists, and points (7-4-18). She will graduate next May ranked fourth all-time at Fredonia with 63 points and tied for first all-time with 19 assists.
Men's cross country runner Zakk Hess (Clyde, N.Y./North Rose-Wolcott) represented Fredonia on Saturday in the NCAA Division III men's cross country championship, finishing 133 rd in a field of 280 runners, crossing the finish line with a time of 25:33.9.
The people have spoken. The Fredonia Blue Devil mascot -- heretofore without an official name -- will now be called, "Fred."
Fredonia senior Zakk Hess (Clyde, N.Y./North Rose-Wolcott) ran the fastest final 2,000-meter time Saturday at the NCAA Division III Atlantic Regional men's cross country meet. Hess's fourth-place finish in a time of 25:17.3 for 8,000 meters helped carry the Blue Devils to a seventh place finish out of 40 teams.
Fredonia broke out to an early lead and built on it during a 75-64 women's basketball win Nov. 15 over the Alfred State Pioneers. Sophomore guard Alexis Cheatham (Lockport, N.Y./Lockport), the reigning SUNYAC Rookie of the Year, began the 2014-15 season with a team-high 23 points, including 5 of 8 on three-pointers.
The Fredonia volleyball team made it all the way to the SUNYAC Championship match before falling to the New Paltz Hawks, 3-0, in the finals on Nov. 9.
Will Baker (East Amherst, N.Y./Williamsville North) and Jake Hewitt (Duanesburg, N.Y./Schalmont) were double winners, and Rafael Santiago (Middletown, N.Y./Middletown) posted an NCAA qualifying score off the 1-meter board when the Fredonia men's swimming and diving team traveled to Geneseo on Saturday.
The women's volleyball team (22-10 overall, 7-2 SUNYAC) finished the regular season with a split on Saturday, winning the morning match against Skidmore and dropping the afternoon match to Union. They next head to the SUNYAC Tournament next Saturday, where they will meet the winner of Friday's first-round match between Buffalo State and Cortland.

Fredonia women's soccer claimed the No. 3 seed in the SUNYAC Tournament with a 2-1 win Saturday over New Paltz at University Stadium. They will play host to Buffalo State -- the No. 6 seed -- in a first-round game at 1 p.m. this Saturday.
