2023 Fall Representative and Class President’s Elections, September 12th & 13th.

This message is being sent on behalf of the Student Association. Please direct any questions to sapres@fredonia.edu.

Hello everyone!

The Fredonia Student Association’s Fall Representative and Class President’s Elections are fast approaching and I would love the opportunity to tell you about the avenues of getting involved in student leadership and advocacy within the Student Association.

If you are interested in becoming a representative or president for your class, I encourage you to declare your candidacy! You can declare your candidacy at the Student Association website, or you can visit the Student Association office at S226 A&B of the Williams Center and sign the declaration book.  The last day to declare your candidacy for class representative and class president is September 5th by 5:00 p.m.  Elections will be held on September 12th and September 13th.  Following the election, we will have an orientation for new presidents and representatives.

The Student Association is the governing body of all student clubs and organizations on campus and is made up of elected representatives from each class. The representatives that make up the Student Association General Assembly have the responsibility of representing their fellow students on various matters such as: what type of clubs they want to see on campus, the nature of student advocacy efforts on campus and at the state level, and the type of initiatives they want to see come from the Student Association committees. Representatives vote on bills and legislation for these topics in a continued effort to make Fredonia and the outside community a greater place while ensuring that the student voice is heard.

Each class has multiple representatives and one class president. The class president leads the class and is the chief representative of their constituency. The class presidents are also responsible for representing the students at the University Senate meetings.

The Student Association also maintains various committees, each having a unique task. These committees are made up of class representatives and presidents, as well as many students that have a passion for a particular committee’s work. The committees we have are:

– Diversity Relations

– Public Relations

– Student Relations

– Community Relations

– Sustainability Relations

– Rules

– Budget & Appropriations

– Supreme Court

– Elections

If you are interested in joining any of these committees, or if you would like to know more, please reach out to me or Israel Ortiz, President of the Student Association, sapres@fredonia.edu. Again, you do not have to be an elected representative to join a committee.

As I’ve displayed above, the Student Association is a large, extensive organization with many different avenues for student engagement and advocacy. I encourage you to pursue one or many of these avenues. There is a place for everyone in the Student Association, and I welcome you to explore the opportunities the Student Association can offer.

Please reach out to me if you have any questions about getting involved in the Student Association! My email is saspeak@fredonia.edu.

Have a great semester, and I hope to see you soon!
