Overview, Description and Purpose of Program

>> The Educational Leadership programs are entering a hiatus for the purpose of re-development. Therefore we will not be accepting applications for all of 2017.

This Certificate of Advanced Study (CAS) in School Building Leadership (SBL) is open to anyone already possessing teacher certification, a master's degree or equivalent in education or a related field, and who has at least three years of satisfactory teaching or professional experience in a Pre-K-12 setting. Successful completion of this CAS allows a candidate to assume such roles as principal, assistant principal, supervisor, department chairperson, or program coordinator. Completion also leads to a recommendation for initial certification as a School Building Leader (SBL) in New York State.

This Certificate of Advanced Study program consists of 30 credit hours of graduate level courses and includes a 600-clock hour internship, and an internship comprehensive oral portfolio. The SBL program encourages teaching and learning in formal and informal settings on and off campus, as well as through field experiences in component districts in order to deliver a comprehensive program developing the many aspects of leadership.    

The School Building Leader (SBL) program also provides the foundation for entrance to the School District Leadership (SDL) Certificate of Advanced Study (CAS)
