The Department of Business Administration, with cooperation from the university's Career Development Office, has an active internship program. Internships are work experiences for which students receive academic credit. Out of the minimum 120 credits needed for a B.S. degree, interested students are allowed up to 24 credits of internship. In fact, having an internship experience is a graduation requirement for students majoring in business administration or accounting.

The department offers both paid and unpaid internships with various local and regional firms and organizations during regular semesters, summer sessions, and j-terms. Also, students are allowed to receive internship credit through their own part-time jobs, as long as such employment requires the use of business administration skills. Before the Internship 

  • Student completes the contract; site supervisor and faculty sponsor approves it; faculty sponsor requests registration to ACCT/BUAD/ECON 380, copies the student. The student will then be registered for ACCT/BUAD/ECON 380 once the Registrar’s Office approves the course registration request. The Faculty Sponsor will email the contract to the Career Development Office Internship Coordinator for final sign off.

    • Organization name and address Site supervisor contact information
    • Internship start and end dates Weekly hours and total expected hours
    • Compensation details (if applicable)
    • Job Requirements written in specific, measurable terms (WHAT); linked to SOB program outcomes business knowledge written communication oral communication data analysis professional/community engagement
    • Educational Objectives written as HOW the requirement will be demonstrated and what EVIDENCE will verify educational objective achievement
  • Example – How to Write Job Requirements and Educational Objectives
    • Job Requirement (WHAT): Assist staff to improve scheduling process (Business Knowledge, Analytical Skill)
    • Educational Objective (HOW + Evidence): Develop business knowledge by analyzing the current scheduling system and proposing one improvement. Evidence: Documentation of the improvement. 

During the Internship 

  • Professional Performance
    • Meet site supervisor expectations
    • Communicate with Faculty Sponsor if issues arise 

End of Internship Deliverables - Method of Evaluation 

  • Mid-term evaluation; CDO will send link to student and site supervisor                     10/10/2025
  • Final evaluation; CDO will send link to student and site supervisor                              12/19/2025
  • Updated resume with the internship added – email to Dr. Walters                                12/19/2025
  • Log of Hours (40 hours = 1 credit) - signed by site – email to Dr. Walters                     12/19/2025
  • Final Evidence Compilation – email/share to Dr. Walters                                                  12/19/2025
    • a single document that pulls together the artifacts or outputs listed in your Educational Objectives (e.g., reports, charts, summaries, presentations, or supervisor confirmations).
