LeChase Construction Services, LLC made a strong impression with its first building project at SUNY Fredonia, winning the university’s “Contractor of the Year” award for 2008. Rochester-based LeChase served as construction manager for the complete reconstruction of the 28,000 square-foot Center Pointe Lounge Complex
When it comes to learning how to skillfully and gracefully glide on ice, there’s probably no “hotter” venue than SUNY Fredonia’s cool Steele Hall Ice Arena. Scores of talented skating enthusiasts who enthusiastically flock to this facility will be on display at several shows during March. Some 30 members of the College Skating Club, under the direction of veteran ice skating coach Joan Disbrow, will present a show Wednesday, March 11, at 8:45 p.m.
The works of three Buffalo-based artists will be featured in the main art gallery in Rockefeller Arts Center beginning March 6. The community will also have the opportunity to hear the two of the artists talk more about their works. Entitled “Figure and Form: Explorations of Humanity,” the exhibit will feature selected paintings by Bruce Adams, Jackie Felix and George Hughes.

SUNY Fredonia will compete against colleges and universities from Canada, India and Islampur over a 10-week period to measure the success of its recycling and waste prevention efforts. This year, 510 schools have agreed to participate in "Recyclemania." All 50 states and the District of Columbia are represented in 2009.
Requests for funding must be hand delivered to Karen Barnett, Executive Assistant, in the FSA Office, Gregory Hall, by 5 p.m. Friday, Feb.13. The Faculty Student Association announced its 2009 grants cycle for campus programs. The deadline to apply (applications must be hand-delivered) is Friday, Feb. 12, at 5 p.m. Through its program funds, the Faculty Student Association (FSA) supports various university activities that enhance the educational and/or cultural experience of the campus community. The FSA Board of Directors reviews requests for support in March of each year. The Board will soon begin considering applications for support for the period June 1 through May 31, 2010.
Marcia Mackowiak, Darlene Miller, Denise Aschmann, Markus Kessler and Joel Polito are the winners of the Outstanding Administrative Service Awards presented in late 2008 by Vice President for Administration Tracy S. Bennett, who gave a luncheon in their honor.
With the exception of a few offices, college buildings will be closed, and heat reduced, beginning on the close of business Wednesday, Dec. 24, and will reopen on Monday, Jan. 5, 2009. Employees will be asked to use their leave credits, but those who choose to work may do so.
SUNY Fredonia’s Center for Rural Regional Development and Governance (CRRDG) has established an advisory board that includes both SUNY Fredonia faculty and staff, as well as community leaders. Center Director Chuck Cornell said the creation of the board will further SUNY Fredonia’s vision of providing “greater support for the region's economic and educational development.”
The DFT Communications Pops Series will present “Christmas with the Four Freshmen” on Friday, Dec. 12 at 8 p.m. in Rockefeller Arts Center’s King Concert Hall. Now in their 60th year of performance, The Four Freshmen remain a vibrant musical force on the American Jazz and pop scene, bringing their unique brand of vocal harmony to audiences worldwide.
