Custodial staff making sure safety is priority

Over 70 members of the custodial staff at SUNY Fredonia gathered in the university’s Horizon Room on Thursday, Jan. 13, for the 10th Annual Custodial Safety Awards Luncheon. Awards were presented in three areas; Proper Bulb Storage, No “chocked” Doors, and Proper Chemical Labeling, with all staff in the building fully in compliance eligible to receive an award.

Tim Hortons makes campus debut, adds to breadth of dining options

A new Tim Hortons self-service coffee kiosk is now open in Thompson Hall. Located on the first floor across from the W101 lecture hall, it is a component of a new service concept, FREDExpress, designed for “grab-and-go” service. It provides Thompson Hall’s students, faculty and staff with a long sought-after, on-site dining option, which is especially beneficial during inclement weather.

During holidays, campus shutdown in effect; some services still provided

To conserve utility costs, SUNY Fredonia will curtail services and operations for the Christmas and New Year’s holidays, undertaking an annual shutdown that has generated significant savings in the past. With the exception of a few offices, college buildings will be closed, and heat reduced, from 5 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 23, through Sunday, Jan. 2, 2011. Regular business hours will resume Monday, Jan. 3.

Administrative Division honors five for annual award

Five SUNY Fredonia employees, whose collective service spans more than a half-century and all five major departments within the Administration division, have received Outstanding Administrative Service Awards in recognition of exemplary service during 2010. The honorees are Joe Fabritius, Terri Helwig, Randy Goodemote, Rebecca Krzyzanowicz, and Judy Langworthy.

Day care center architects given Contractor of Year Award

Flynn Battaglia Architects, PC, of Buffalo was honored as the 2010 Contractor of the Year at SUNY Fredonia for its design work on the newly-completed Campus and Community Children’s Center. The annual luncheon on Nov. 23 also recognized companies who worked on campus projects during the past year. Representatives of over 50 companies were welcomed.

Library calls for more support: vote online for $50,000 to digitize valuable music collection

Reed Library is calling for online votes of support to win a $50,000 award from Pepsi to digitize and restore the internationally-valued Sigurd Rascher Saxophone Collection. The project has hovered at 197th place for two weeks, but organizer Melissa Widzinski says there are 15 days left to vote and she is pushing to get every vote possible to help the project make the Top Ten.
