The works of 11 students from the Department of Visual Arts and New Media at SUNY Fredonia are on exhibit in the Cathy and Jesse Marion Art Gallery.
On July 1, SUNY Fredonia will officially open its new College of Visual and Performing Arts, formally combining its world-renowned School of Music with its strong departments of Theatre and Dance, and Visual Arts and New Media, as well as the Michael C. Rockefeller Arts Center. Today, the university named Dr. Ralph J. Blasting as its founding dean.
The range of media explored by internationally known artists Sonya Clark, Anna Dumitriu, Paddy Hartley, Lindsay Obermeyer and Laura Splan extends from traditional embroidering, knitting, hand-quilting and beadwork to non-traditional works made from stethoscopes, hospital sheets, intravenous tubing, digital video and computerized machine embroidery. The "Gone Viral" exhibition, which continues through April 7, was curated by Leesa Rittelmann, associate professor of art history.
Established by Cathy (’79) and Jesse Marion of Houston, Texas, the fellowship will support new artistic experiences in several locations for a faculty member of the School of Music, Department of Theatre and Dance, or Department of Visual Arts and New Media, or graduate student in music, that can be shared with other artists, students and faculty, both on campus and elsewhere.
“Fredonia Showcase,” art works by students from the Department of Visual Arts and New Media at SUNY Fredonia, is the current exhibit in the Cathy and Jesse Marion Art Gallery at Rockefeller Arts Center. The show runs through Sunday, March 3. Gallery hours are 2 to 6 p.m. from Tuesday through Thursday; 2 to 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday; and 2 to 6 p.m. on Sunday.
SUNY Fredonia’s 2012 Holiday Video has become an instant sensation. The video, which has already generated more than 5,400 views on YouTube, follows student Eric Jaynes through a typical day on campus.
