Bond Benton to be published in Argumentation and Advocacy

The fall edition of “Argumentation and Advocacy,” the flagship publication of the American Forensic Association, will feature an article written by Dr. Bond Benton, faculty member in the Department of Communication. His article, “Debate, Diversity, and Adult Learners: The Experiences of Foreign Nationals in the U.S. State Department," presents results of staff training that Dr. Benton conducted for the State Department.

Kathleen Gradel taught online workshops and courses, launched two new tech grant initiatives

Education Professor Kathleen Gradel recently concluded a busy summer of teaching off campus by collaboratively launching two newly-funded SUNY Provost office grants through the new IITG (Innovative Instruction Technology Grant) initiative. Dr. Gradel’s summer professional activities began in May, when she conducted three “people-packed” hands-on seminars at the SUNY Conference on Instruction & Technology at SUNY StonyBrook.

Gary Bice, Residence Life Director, receives award from national group

The Northeastern Association of College and University Housing Officers honored Gary Bice, director of Residence Life at SUNY Fredonia, with its Lifetime Service Award. Bice has served the association as the Chair of Risk Management and Legal Issues Committee, Eastern NY District Coordinator, President-elect, President, Past President (twice), Chair of the Constitution Review Task Force, and most recently as Chair of the Strategic Plan Task Force.

Neil Feit anticipates publication of book he is editing on philosophical theories of oneself

Dr. Neil Feit, chair of the Philosophy Department, has completed most of the editing of Attitudes De Se: Linguistics, Epistemology, Metaphysics, an interdisciplinary collection of essays by linguists and philosophers. The book is forthcoming from Stanford University’s CSLI Publications. Also this summer, Feit completed a paper on the concept of harm in ethics.

Faculty honorees to present lectures this fall, Hagan award recipient to be recognized

Dr. Cheryl Drout, Dr. Gary Lash and Dr. David Kinkela will be honored this fall during three lecture events. Drout won the President's Award for Excellence in Teaching last spring and will give the honorary lecture on Sept. 11. Lash is the annual Kasling Lecturer for the event planned Oct. 16, when Kinkela will be given the Hagan Young Scholar/Artist Award.

Environmental Sciences program to partner with famous Tall Ship for Great Lakes study

Three weeks of sailing and living on the historic vessel, the Flagship Niagara, will offer undergraduates an unparalleled environmental science field experience this summer as they measure the presence of plastics pollution in environmentally sensitive areas within three of the five Great Lakes. Dr. Sherri Mason of the Chemistry Department is leading the research, and openings exist for interested students.
