SUNY Fredonia’s Department of Mathematical Sciences is celebrating its 14th annual Pi Day on Thursday, March 13, at 5:30 p.m. in McEwen Hall Room 209. All are welcome to attend. The year’s theme is ‘Pi’ Perfect. Team signups are available outside of Fenton Hall Room 222, also known as the “fishbowl,” and is open to students, faculty, and staff. Signups will end March 11.
The next event in Liberal Arts and Sciences Brown Bag Lecture Series, "Technology in the Arts," will be held on Wednesday, March 5, at noon in McEwen Hall Room 202. The event is free and all are welcome. Speakers will include Jill Johnston, Todd Proffitt and Jason Dillworth.
“The Orchestra of Piazza Vittorio” will be shown as part of SUNY Fredonia’s Convocation Series on Tuesday, March 11, at 7 p.m. in McEwen Hall Room 202. The theme of the film series is, "Through Your Eyes: International Perspectives on Film.” The Convocation Series’ goal is about raising cultural awareness and building global relations.
The SUNY Fredonia Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion will host a panel designed to explore and discuss the issues of non-apparent disabilities in higher education on Thursday, March 13, from 3:30 to 5 p.m. in Williams Center Room S204.
Three students who have won Rosa Parks Scholarships will be honored at the 25th annual Rosa Parks Scholarship and Presentation ceremony on Tuesday, March 4, at 4 p.m. at the Williams Center Multipurpose Room. Recipients of the scholarship include Ken Clause, a senior from Lockport majoring in Drawing and Painting; Melissa Guida, a junior from Fishkill majoring in Psychology and Criminal Justice; and Arielys Mendoza, a freshman from the Bronx majoring in Cooperative Engineering.
The Sixth 5K Slush Rush is slated for Sunday, March 2, beginning at Dods Hall. Race Day Registration and Race Day Check-in is from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. at the Dods Hall gymnasium. The Race Start Time is 9 a.m., and the post-race party and awards will begin immediately after the last runner finishes. For complete registration information.
Drs. Kathleen Magiera of the Department of Curriculum and Instruction and Jennifer Moon Ro of the Department of Language, Learning and Leadership of the College of Education at SUNY Fredonia, with Dr. Barbara Chorzempa of SUNY New Paltz, and Dr. Mary Kay Szwejbka of Jamestown Community College, were the recipients of a $3,000 SUNY Networks of Excellence planning grant for a project, “Southern Tier Energy Production: Powering Up Middle School Writers to Learn About their Communities.”
A new documentary about gum, “A Sticky Situation,” will have its first rough cut test screening on campus in February. Screenings are scheduled for Monday, Feb. 24, at 7 p.m., in McEwen Hall Room G24 and at 9 p.m.in Jewett Hall Room 101. A third screening is slated for Friday, Feb. 28, at 7 p.m. at Jewett Hall Room 101.The screenings are free and open to the public.
SUNY Fredonia revealed a sharp drop in its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, according to its latest Greenhouse Gas Audit, generating a more than 29 percent decrease in CO 2 equivalent emissions from 2011 to 2013.
David Folkenflik, an acclaimed media correspondent with National Public Radio, will explore “The Future of News: Technology and Journalism” as the keynote speaker in the 2013-2014 Arts and Sciences Brown Bag Lecture Series on Thursday, Feb. 20, at noon at Rosch Recital Hall. The lecture is free and open to the public.
