Pathways to Music provides an opportunity for children and parents to discover the joys of experiencing music while singing, moving, listening, dancing and playing. The Program is designed for children ages 6 months through 5 years old. Each class is a combination of age-appropriate musical activities including songs, finger plays, dances, bouncing games, circle games, instrument exploration, lullabies and more.
The renowned piano/vocal duo of Marvin Goldstein and Vanessa Joy (in photo at right) will perform in a special one-night only concert to benefit the Playground drama day camp scholarship fund. The concert takes place on Wednesday, Aug. 14 at 7 p.m. in Marvel Theatre at SUNY Fredonia.
The SUNY Fredonia Technology Incubator’s newest resident, Worldwide App, Inc. (Worldwide), is looking to bring hometown independent (“indie”) filmmakers from across the U.S. to Hollywood for a once-in-a-lifetime chance to make their dreams come true. The company is establishing its east coast headquarters in the incubator — just in time for the public launch next month of its mobile application, which will allow users to access independent films from their devices and vote for their favorite filmmakers to advance in an “in-app” competition.
The annual program, which has quickly become one of the highlights of the university's summer season, once again offers two sessions to better maximize each child's abilities and experiences. Week One, which runs Aug. 12-17 and is for children ages 12-17, will be highlighted by the presentation of “High School Musical Jr.” The second camp, Aug. 19-24, is for children ages 8-12 and is capped by Roald Dahl’s “Willy Wonka Kids.” Children 12 years of age are eligible to attend both camps.

“Keiko Abe’s presence on our campus last summer was truly life changing. She enriched the cultural life of our students, our community, and many other participants who attended the Academy and we are confident that this will be another innovative and inspiring week,” said Kay Stonefelt, SUNY Fredonia percussion professor and lead organizer of the Keiko Abe Academy.
Nearly 200 artistically gifted high school students from across New York State will gather at SUNY Fredonia to participate in two programs – Choral Studies and Visual Arts – offered by the New York State Summer School for the Arts program.
A truly international event, the academy is drawing students from Japan, Peru, Taiwan, and China, as well as from various locations in the U.S. More than 20 participants will attend workshops and performances with Keiko Abe and her collaborative teachers. The week-long academy culminates with a Gala Performance and Reception with Abe on Friday, June 21 at 8 p.m., in Rosch Recital Hall.
The 2013 Marion Fellowship for the Visual and Performing Arts has been awarded to SUNY Fredonia Photography professor Liz Lee, who will create, “Cosmological Process,” a body of photographic work inspired by, “Our Elegant Universe,” the opening week theme of the 2013 Chautauqua Institution season. Cathy (’79) and Jesse Marion created the fellowship to bring together the arts from both public and private sectors and facilitate community outreach.
The exhibition, titled “The Fine Arts Senior Show,” will open with a reception in the art gallery from 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday, May 3. The exhibition will highlight the best works by graduating Fine Arts students. Artists taking part in the exhibition are Jillian Berowski, Audrey Bialke, Dani Brooks, Tricia Butski, Lesley Cerniglia, Erica Kang, Christine McMullen, Sarah Peck, Lizzie Reid and Kimberly Zazzara.
