PRIVACY POLICY

The Career Development Office (CDO) at Fredonia is committed to maintaining privacy practices for electronic personal information. FREDNetwork is the CDO’s online platform for job and internship postings, event listings and an appointment request form for career appointments. The CDO contracts with Handshake to provide these services to Fredonia students, alumni, and employers. All data in FREDNetwork is stored on Handshake's secure servers.

Students and Alumni

FREDNetwork is an online service provided for currently enrolled students and alumni of Fredonia. New information is uploaded from Banner each semester and then updated weekly for currently enrolled students. These basic details include contact information (i.e., name, e-mail address) and educational information (i.e., major(s), degree, GPA and graduation month and year).

Handshake's Terms of Service and Privacy Policy are written to enhance the protection of student privacy and to ensure that Handshake remains a valuable platform for all users.

  • Students are in complete control of what data they make public
    • Handshake allows students to decide if they want to make their profile visible to employers and what information they want to share on it. None of the student data uploaded to Handshake is visible to employers until the student chooses to make their profile public.
  • The CDO chooses the student data they share with Handshake
    • Handshake values students' rights to their personal data and are proud to collaborate with our education partners to enhance the value of their career center without compromising student privacy.
  • Handshake will never sell personal student data
    • We have never done it and we never will! Our business model is based on offering valuable tools for our student and employer users that enhance the career discovery process. Your email address and personal data will never be sold to any third party.

Handshake partners with Persona to verify that employers on the platform are legitimate and authorized to hire.

Handshake also uses proprietary fraud detection technology to add additional layers of security during verification and continuously monitors for fraudulent activity after verification to help keep all platform activity and user interactions secure.

The CDO staff makes every attempt to ensure that only bona fide employers are granted access to FREDNetwork. Positions from new employers are reviewed by the CDO staff. However, site users are urged to research thoroughly any job/internship postings and to use caution and common sense when applying. If a candidate encounters any employer issues, they should be reported immediately to the CDO staff at careers@fredonia.edu or 716-673-3327.

As a user of FREDNetwork, you agree to:

  • Maintain current, accurate, and truthful information in your user profile and all documents stored in FREDNetwork.
  • Protect and maintain your username and password (Fredonia e-services credentials).
  • Use FREDNetwork within the standards of the policies regarding computer use at Fredonia.

Failure to comply with the above terms of use may result in the suspension or termination of your FREDNetwork account.

Through FREDNetwork, students and alumni can

  • View internships and jobs
  • Create search agents to have opportunities emailed
  • Upload resumes and other application materials to apply online, and
  • Sign up for CDO events and appointments with a career counselor.

Contact the CDO if there are any concerns about the use of personal information. Users can submit a request if they want to view, correct or change their information, or if they wish to have their account deleted.
