The State University of New York at Fredonia — including its Department of Education — is guided by the university’s overarching mission:
“Fredonia educates, challenges, and inspires students to become skilled, connected, creative, and responsible global citizens and professionals. The university enriches the world through scholarship, artistic expression, community engagement, and entrepreneurship.” SUNY Fredonia+1
This mission reflects Fredonia’s commitment to preparing students not only for academic and professional success but also for active, engaged, and ethical participation in a global society. The Department of Education, as part of the broader College of Education, Health Sciences, and Human Services, aligns with this mission by focusing on preparing educators, health professionals, and human service leaders who are skilled, connected, creative, and responsible.
The department’s work supports the university’s vision of transforming students, the region, and the world through experiential, intellectual, and creative endeavors within the traditions of inclusive community and purposeful inquiry. This includes offering nationally recognized programs in elementary and secondary education, speech pathology, and related fields, as well as fostering collaboration across disciplines to meet the evolving needs of the community and state.
In short, the Department of Education’s mission is to prepare future leaders in education and human services who are equipped to make a positive, lasting impact in their communities and beyond, in full alignment with SUNY Fredonia’s broader educational and societal goals.
