Information on new Study Abroad Program to Vienna is Monday, Jan. 30

The program focuses specifically on the history and culture of Vienna/Austria, the history of crime and punishment and international and national organizations on crime and justice. Daily activities will include museum visits, guided tours and visits of culturally interesting locations. "Law, Crime and Punishment in Austria"will be led this summer by Professor Daniela Peterka-Benton of the Criminal Justice faculty.

Croxton to describe Russian Study Abroad trip planned in June

On Wednesday, Feb. 1, Professor Jack Croxton will lead an informational meeting on the upcoming Study Abroad to Russia course planned for June 1 through 20. The informational meeting starts at 4:30 p.m. in 127 Fenton Hall, the English Reading Room. Students will spend most of the time in St. Petersburg and will have a chance to visit Moscow for a few days as well.

Saundra Liggins is interim Affirmative Action head

Saundra Liggins, Ph.D., of the English Department, has been named Interim Affirmative Action Director, starting January 3. Her office is in the President’s Office complex, and she will be devoting 20 hours per week to the position. Dr. Liggins joined the faculty in 2000. Her teaching and research interests include African-American literature, minority literatures of the United States, women’s literature, gothic literature, cultural studies, and American studies.

New master plan designer picked for 2011 Contractor of the Year

The consulting firm that developed the new Facilities Master Plan that will guide development of the SUNY Fredonia campus for the next 10 years was announced as recipient of the university’s 2011 “Contactor of the Year” award at a Nov. 21 luncheon held at Cranston Marché to honor contractors for their work on projects during past year. Overall construction activity on campus during 2011 included 30 major projects, valued at $15 million, which engaged 94 different contractors -- including 83 from Western New York and 28 from Chautauqua County.

Park and Ride honors 20,000th rider early this year as shuttle service popularity grows

Student rider Hannah Catalano became the academic year's 20,000th rider of the Park and Ride shuttle service on campus, and won a gift certificate to the university bookstore. She is a Park and Ride "regular." Park and Ride usage is increasing. Last year, the 20,000th rider didn't hop aboard one of the buses until March of the spring semester.
