
Credentials for Graduates of the Program
ASHA Certification
Students will be prepared for certification after they have earned the Master of Science Degree in Speech-Language Pathology at The State University of New York at Fredonia. As determined by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA), students must pass the national examination and complete a clinical fellowship.
State Licensure
In addition to national ASHA certification, individuals will need to pursue licensure in the state(s) they plan to practice. Students who obtain a Master of Science Degree in Speech-Language Pathology from Fredonia will have met the course and clinical practicum requirements for New York State's Initial Licensure Requirements, per the NYSED Office of the Professions Guidelines. If an individual chooses to apply for licensure in another state, that individual will need to contact the State Licensure Board in that state for information requirements for licensing.
Teacher Certification
Graduate students who obtain a Master of Science Degree in Speech-Language Pathology from Fredonia will have completed the necessary course work to pursue Initial Certification as a Teacher of Students with Speech and Language Disabilities (TSSLD) in New York State.
