Communication Disorders and Sciences Policies
The Council of Academic Programs in Communication Sciences and Disorders (CAPCSD) published A Guide for Future Practitioners in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology: Core Functions (2023) as a model for educational programs in speech-language pathology and for those seeking a career within this profession. The guide outlines core functions that individuals of such programs typically are expected to apply to acquire knowledge and demonstrate competencies leading to graduation and effective entry into professional practice. The guide discerns core functions from individual program requirements and was designed to be inclusive of differences in behavioral and learning preferences associated with race, ethnicity, culture, sexual orientation, gender identity, language, and sensory, physical, or neurological status.

A graduate student holds the rights to be treated in a nondiscriminatory manner and to file a grade appeal. If the graduate student claims that an earned grade is based on discrimination, the student must file the discrimination claim first. Upon resolution of the discrimination claim, the student may file the grade appeal.
