Minor in Mathematics

A student with just about any major can enhance his or her marketibility by completing a Minor in Mathematics.  This is because potential employers, as well as graduate schools, recognize that the study of mathematics develops analytical, critical reasoning, and problem solving skills, and the ability to communicate ideas clearly and precisely.

The Minor in Mathematics requires coursework totaling 25 or 26 credit hours distributed as follows:

  • MATH 122 University Calculus I
  • MATH 123 University Calculus II
  • MATH 210 Mathematical Structures and Proof
  • MATH 223 University Calculus III
  • Three additional MATH or STAT courses chosen from MATH 224, MATH 231, and courses numbered 311 or above.

Note: Majors in Childhood Inclusive Education who complete the Middle School Extension with MATH 122 and MATH 123 or MATH 120, MATH 121, and MATH 124, qualify to receive a Minor in Mathematics.  They should contact the department chairperson to declare the minor.

NOTES:

  • Some courses at the 300 level and above require prior completion of MATH 231. Study these prerequisites carefully if you elect not to take MATH 231.
  • A student may not elect to minor in both Mathematics and Applied Mathematics.
  • Students must have a GPA of at least 2.0 in the courses selected to satisfy the requirements of the minor.
