Emotional Support Animal

All Emotional Support Animal requests must go through the Office of Disability Support Services.  Please complete the Emotional Support Animal Request Form to initiate the process. 

ESA Requests for Fall 2024 will open on April 2nd.

Please note that animals are NOT permitted on-campus until you receive approval from DSS.  If you have an animal on-campus without permission, you will be required to remove that animal from campus.

A Service Animal is a dog or a mini-horse that is trained to do a task related to the disability. Service Animals can travel with students in all buildings. Emotional Support Animals are prescribed to to help alleviate the symptoms of a disability are only permitted in the student's bedroom.

ESAs are permitted in the bedroom of the ESA approved student only and are not allowed in commons rooms, lobbies, academic buildings, or dining halls. Animals can pass through the lobby on the way outside, but they must be leashed.

  • ESA waste must be disposed of properly per the agreement that you signed with Disability Support Services.
  • ESA must be housebroken.
  • ESA should not interfere with or affect the community of the residence halls.
  • ESA should be be properly boarded off-campus during times of vacation or time away from the residence hall.
  • SUNY Fredonia has the right to remove the ESA if the animal is not housebroken, or if the animal is out of control or affecting the community.
