New Student Roommate Matching

Roommate Matching Tutorial (PDF)

There will be a roommate matching period active from March 6th (8:30 am) - June 16th (4:00 pm) only. Students will be able to pick roommates either by name or other variables such as major, age, etc.

All roommate requests MUST be mutual and you will only be able to choose a roommate who has already filled out the application. Unfortunately, we cannot honor any requests after 16th at 4:00 pm.

Under MyHousing you can also fill out a Roommate Profile under Personal Information. This will allow other students to view any information you wish to share. This is an optional step.

If your roommate request says MATCHES, then you do not need to do anything further as your roommate match is mutual and matched. New students DO NOT pick their room, this office will assign students over the summer.  Please note, you can only select a roommate if you have both completed the housing application.

Instructions for selecting a roommate:

March 6th (8:30 am) - June 16th (4:00 pm)

  • Log on to your MyHousing page
  • Optional: Select Personal Information --> Roommate Profile
  • Optional: Fill out Roommate Profile and save.
  • Select Room Selection --> Roommates/Suitemates
  • Select Fall 2023
  • Search for your roommate using Last Name and First Name
    • PLEASE don't use email, you will not be able to find the person.
    • If you are having issues finding your roommate, first confirm that they completed the the housing application.
    • Try searching by last name ONLY (make sure you are using the last name field)
  • Select your roommate and continue.
  • Remind your roommate that they need to confirm your request.
  • We are sorry, but we cannot honor requests after June 17th. Thank you for your understanding.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I have a single room?

If you need a single room for a medical purpose, you need to contact the Office of Disability Support Services. Please review our Medical Accommodation Policy.

What if I can't find a roommate?

One will be assigned to you.

What if I can't find my roommate's name when I search?

Make sure that you are putting the last name in the correct field and that it is spelled correctly. Make sure that your roommate filled out an application. If those two things don't work, just try searching based on last name and make sure it is spelled correctly. Some last names require a space (Mc Doe).

Try not to search using the e-mail field.

If you are trying to find a roommate of a different gender, you must complete the Gender Inclusive Form instead and we will place you into Gender Inclusive Housing in a suite style building.

What if I find a roommate after June 16th?

Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate any requests after June 16th at 4:00 pm. Thank you for your understanding!

Can I request to fill a suite?

Unfortunately, we can only allow you to choose one roommate at this time.

What does it mean to have a mutual request?

This means that you have requested a roommate and they have accepted it through their MyHousing portal, or vice versa. You should be in touch with your roommate to make sure this happens prior to June 16th. Your request page will say that you have a fully matched group - if your page says that, then you are all set!

My roommate and I requested different buildings, where will we live?

Your first option is to edit your application to have the same preferences. You must do this by June 16th. If you do not do this, we will use the request from the roommate who completed the application first.

I want a single room but I have a backup request for a roommate, what do I do?

We highly recommend going through roommate matching and selecting a roommate. It is beneficial to your student experience to live with another roommate and if you have a person in mind - then we strongly encourage you to request a roommate and not live in a single room.

If we run out of single rooms, you will be placed with a roommate during our assignment process.

Why can't I find my roommate?

Sometimes our system is very picky. If you enter too much information, it will not find your roommate. This is especially true if you enter the email. If you search by email, you will NOT find your requested roommate. Try searching by Last Name only. Verify the spelling and that the student has completed the application.

Students should be aware that the university reserves the right to change room assignments, consolidate rooms and close halls if it appears occupancy requests fail to fully utilize or exceeds the total number of spaces available.
